Post Cadillac News: Cadillac abandons plans for six-digit flagship sedan

So much for that party. Cadillac has announced that it is walking away from plans to build a high-dollar, rear-wheel-drive ultraluxury sedan. The low-volume model would have been based on the lusty Ciel Concept, and the production iteration would have carried a price tag well over $100,000. Executives with the automaker reportedly claim the model wouldn't have bolstered the brand enough to be worth the investment.

Even so, Automotive News reports Cadillac is still on track to build a range-topping four-door to go head-to-head with the BMW 7 Series and Mercedes-Benz S-Class. That model will likely be constructed on the company's upcoming Omega rear-wheel-drive platform, but we won't see it bow until at least 2016. Right now, the front-wheel-drive XTS sits at the top of the Cadillac lineup, and while that machine and it's twin-turbocharged V6 variant makes a compelling argument against certain luxury entries, it falls short serving as a legitimate competitor for the likes of the 7 Series and S-Class for enthusiast drivers.Cadillac abandons plans for six-digit flagship sedan originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 01 Jul 2013 09:13:00 EST. Perhaps Cadillac executives are correct to abandon the Ciel for reasons given, however, when (or if) they ever agree to produce a luxury "Halo" Caddy, there seems to be plenty of interest in the Ciel as a concept upon which to build. This is a beautiful and stunning automobile!

    You know,

    That's a bunch of BS

If the Luxury Sedan market is such a wasteland than why is the Competitor 7 series thriving against all odds, why is it even a "Competitor" to speak of?

    Secondly

The cadillac concepts are a joke... Whoever GM has at the drawing board is obviously a hard core space science fiction fanatic with the rendering of the "Flagship" Ceil & Omega "Concepts"

Apparently a Sad Attempt to draw Attention to an Already Established brand... Which no less committed treason by leaving a market it clearly dominated 20 years ago... but now petitioning for Asylum, then Recanting

Who's at the helm of this company anyway, can not one Suit commit to a sound decision or is it all foolery, side steps and childish games of wasting billions of dollars on materials and coloring books

At this point I could only advocate the termination of several elite positions which are clearly an exorbitant expense to the progression and production of a company and a feasible product of a luxury sedan

If all GM can make are Compact Sports Cars that rival your Mini Smart Cars then GM should start selling out to or merging with its Thriving Competitors whom have no issue with making a sound decision and holding to it til its Sold
