This second-generation SRX replaces the more wagon-like SRX which debuted in 2004 and does so in a much more SUV-looking shape and on a platform GM calls "Theta Premium. It's the same platform that Saab will use to build the 2010 9-4X. Some critics will bemoan the loss the tall wagon, but we'll be the first to state nothing has been lost in translation.
The new SRX is good, really good. Lexus RX350-beating good. For a segment which has traditionally isolated the driver in a cocoon of leather and glass and over-damping, the SRX actually makes driving part of the equation.
I'm glad they like it. I liked the old Sigma-based SRX, with the wagon look and all. But I'm also a weird wagon-lover. The Sigma is an excellent platform, though it's nice to see the Theta Premium is not too bad. But it still looks too much like the regular Theta vehicles - that chrome piece on the fender even reminds me of cheaper vehicles.
Glad to see that Cadillac's new re-designs (SRX and CTS/V) have found favorable reviews with other car enthusiasts. Maybe if Cadillac applies the same technique to the D/STS we could have a truly great and respected lineup.
I just saw 3 of these on the road today with manufacturer plates. I stopped one of the drivers and asked him what's the deal. They are being delivered to some mall for display... what cought my eye was the 20 or 21" chrome wheels on a black one... that thing looked super sharp... and I couldn't help wondering if that 6 bolt pattern would fit my 1st gen CTS-V.... those wheels in motion as well were stellar... really made the car. 1st I've seen of those chrome factory wheels though.
I got to drive one the other day with the 3.0L DI engine and AWD Sport Package- super vehicle. Much more sporty and fun than the Lexus, and really good lines in person. It looks squished in pictures for some reason, but excellent in person.
