In other words, according to Mr. Clarke, Cadillac's future includes one large sedan, meaning it'll drop either the DTS or the STS.
[I am submitting the first sentence of the preceding paragraph to Guinness for the "most profligate abuse of commas" record.]
On the other hand, an item from the Automotive News archives dated August 21, 2006 titled Cadillac: Small crossover is coming, but no small car says of the BLS, "The next generation of the small sedan (on sale in Europe since April) had been under consideration as an entry-level convertible and coupe in the United States, positioned below the CTS. But it turns out the "baby Cadillac" will have no future here. The vehicle's price would be too close to the larger CTS."
The same article says of the DTS, "The DTS sedan is Cadillac's only fwd model, and the current generation is likely to be the last. The redesigned car likely will be developed on GM's global rear-wheel-drive architecture, debuting for the 2011 model year. A name change is likely."
And of our beloved STS: "The reskinned 2008 STS gets an Escalade-inspired grille featuring a more detailed chrome treatment that includes a subdued mesh housed within individual grille slats. The taillight design ditches the full red lenses in favor of clear, smoky covers that showcase the light-emitting diodes [bad guess, but these are the Euro-style tail lamps available elsewhere on this bulleting board]. GM might introduce a higher-horsepower STS-V. The STS sedan will be restyled and re-engineered for the 2010 model year."
I do believe that Troy Clarke gazes on Cadillac's future through his very own glass navel. A small Cadillac is exactly the wrong product--recall the Cimmaron. The China-only SLS, a stretched STS, would be much more apt addition to the Cadillac line. Especially with its drop-dead gorgeous interior. |

Both great cars. Caddy was much more reliable. Lincoln always had a window out, power locks out, small stuff like that. Neither had any drive train problems. Caddy prob had 427 cubes and fast. Lincoln had a heavy 430, slow as a VW (not quite).
Caddy was 4900 lbs; Linc= 5400 lbs.
Nothing today rides like those did. 15 mpg on highway; 10 around town. I could fill up (24 gals) for $5.00 (prem at a disc place).
I bought both of them when they were 6 years old, and each had about 20k miles on them. Both were in showroom condition. The little old lady that owned the Lincoln gave me a batt charger and a hydrometer because her chauffer could not maintain the battery--he obviously drove very little. I paid $1200 for Caddy and $1050 for Lincoln.
I apologize for stealing the whatever I stole (thread), but...
I started to say I almost become depressed when I hear about GM discontinuing the older larger cars. I thrive on long wheelbases. |

He further elaborated: "that it wouldn't meet current front door crash standards." I guess this means the interior too had to meet crash standards.
The Bean counters are alive and well at GM, that is until they have killed the last American Luxury car, then they will be furloughed to that ultimate bean counter land--WalMart! | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
