| | | Re: For all you stupid walmart lovers!! BUT, the politicians can then go to the people and say "I created xx jobs" by giving massive tax breaks to Walmart....
Not much ticks me off more* than politicans claiming THEY created jobs. I am sorry a 6 month construction job isn't a JOB. A job that closes one business to open another isn't a job.
If you didn't go into business and start your own firm and hired those people, you DIDN'T create jack!
* People who buy imports and not American probably DO tick me off more. I am sorry to say it, but GM and Ford are still American companies and the profits from the sales DO come to the US. Anything not from them (i.e. Toyota, Nissan, Mitsubishi, BMW, etc) the profits GO to another company. Sure they may hire people here and assemble something here, but the profits ultimately go overseas. THAT ticks me off more.... I will step down from my soapbox now.... |

| | | Re: For all you stupid walmart lovers!! I agree 1,000% and many on here know that. I am a rabid hater of anything foregn made, or made here by a foreign corp. I NEVER let any foreign car in when they are attempting to exit a parking lot, hey, let them wait for a "brother" to let them out. I especially hate Lexi, hohDUH, Toyopet, Piss-on
and BMw as well as Miserable Bendz. I am more tolerant of Jaguar, Mazda, Volvo, and Saab, because they are owned by GM or Ford, who do get some profit from them. The other? They can fall in behind me and suck my exhaust. I pray the DamnHer-Bendz sells there portion of Chrysler back to Chrysler and that Chrysler starts getting back to being Chrysler. I have never been in a WalMart & never will. I do go to Target and K-Mart, but not too often.
I like Macy;s and Independant stores.

Lots of people always protest, and rightfully so most of the time, but when it comes right down to it, they frequent the store heavily once it's there. Almost exactly like my grandmother who said she'd never go when they built one on the edge of town, only for everyone to hear "I'm going to Wal-Mart" to get some stuff" almost daily from her now.
It just happens. Bad or good, it's a store, and it's low priced, and the attraction is strong enough that most people overlook deeper core values or what had to happen for it to be there. |

| | | Re: For all you stupid walmart lovers!! Reads like a bunch of crap to me. So they give Wal-Mart subsidies, so what. They try to make it sound like only Wal-Mart gets them and others don't, which isn't true.
Wages in other countries is a very dumb thing to use in this type of presentation. Making 46 cents an hour in Indonesia is a lot more than they'd make doing something else that they are qualified for.
Not going to go point by point but I must say that did nothing for me. |

| | | Re: For all you stupid walmart lovers!! I bought the book "The Walmart Effect".
Interesting reading. Ironically on the flight I was catching at the time there was a similar tv programme about Walmart on direct tv.
IMHO the problem isn't Walmart.
Walmart as a business serve a need. People want the lowest price they can get and will buy from the store that gives them that. They generally don't even are about the quality of the goods. Cheapest wins. (not in all cases, but for the great majority of the population).
Who is to blame for this? Us. The consumer. If people stopped buying from discount places they wouldn't exist anymore. Vote with your feet/wallet. On the tv show there was a woman who'd husband lost his job at some company or other because Walmart had opened up. When asked where she shops she said Walmart and always had. When asked why considering her situation, she said they were the cheapest and she didn't see the point in paying more for the same item. This was a smart, educated woman.
Herein lies the problem (and the same is happening in the UK too).
How many of us on here buy our car parts from the big chain motor stores instead of the small local store? How many of us buy from the cheapest website? How many of us change our long distance calling plan to the cheapest one even if their call centre is in say India?
We're all as guilty as each other.
Pointing the finger at the big bad corporation is both inaccurate and not going to help.
They're in business to make money for their shareholders and that's all.
And if Walmart starts being more morally aware and thus ends up charging more (their profit margin is actually a shockingly low 3% last time I checked) their competitors (Target etc) will continue to charge low and no doubt increase their customer base as everyone switches their loylaty to them as they're cheaper.
If people's opininon of their business practises changes theiur buying habits then the big companies will lose customers and go under or they will have to change their practices.
I'm not defending Walmarts practices, but the problem isn't just down to them. The power to changfe is in the hands of Joe Consumer. | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
