I still have yet to figure out why everyone seems so upset when a company is profitable. Everyone feels like they should be giving money back or they owe them. I think MurphyG said it pretty well.

I work for a company that brings IN profits to the US. Not too many companies do that anymore. They sell products here and the $$ leaves this country. Sure, we manufacture in other countries, but the profits come back here to Chicagoland. Walmart keeps the profits back here in the US. Sure, they sell a lot of out of country products, but the profits come back here/stay here. Not like them Japanese cars that try to push they are "Made in the USA", they aren't, they are assembled and the profits LEAVE the US.

Re: For all you stupid walmart lovers!!

I have no problem with a company being profitable. Hell, unless you're an airline or a huge automaker, you can't stay in business without being profitable. And even then, not all survive (see Pan Am, Eastern, Packard).

I don't really have a beef with Wal-Mart being profitable, except I think they make at least part of their profits by squeezing their suppliers and their employees. In articles and documentaries I've seen, there are stories of how Rubbermaid and Vlasic pickles were practically run into the ground trying to meet Wal-Mart's demands.

And it's pretty bad when Wal-Mart tells its employees to apply for government medical care or food stamps. So, in the end, all taxpayers end up subsidizing Wal-Mart. That's not right.

As I said, I have no objections to profits. I work for a small company, and we've been hammered in the past couple of years, managing to eke out a small profit for 2006. What I object to are companies—and Wal-Mart is not alone—making bigger profits through what I would consider unethical business practices. That—and the fact that I find their stores tacky and cluttered, if not dirty—is why I refuse to shop there.

This is an interesting debate, BTW. I like seeing how others view things.

Re: For all you stupid walmart lovers!!

Well, someone my wife met is applying at Walmart, starting wage is $8/hr. Is that acceptable? Not even min wage. As a matter of fact, like 20% more than min wage, if not 30%.

No, you aren't gonna raise your family of 4 on that with 1 income at that, but considering people who work there rarely have this as the only income in the family, it is almost ALWAYS the secondary. So that isn't too bad. My company when they had manufacturing in the US started people at that. But we did offer full benefits, which helps a lot.

Re: For all you stupid walmart lovers!!

Min wage in California is 7.50/hr.

Still well below poverty though, if you're only working 40 hours a week.

Re: For all you stupid walmart lovers!!

Heck, if you got a family, $15/hr isn't gonna cut it even at 40 hours a week. Not here by a long shot.

Re: For all you stupid walmart lovers!!

Well, I feel a little better at Wal Mart now.... the local Wal Mart Supercenter isn't as bad as the one near me in FL.... the brush guard on the truck isn't needed to clear the parking spot of carts, and it is somewhat liveable in there... and the line wasn't too bad.... though I'll have to give it a few more trys.

Re: For all you stupid walmart lovers!!

I love Wall Mart.
Stores that I don't shop at and never will
1. BB
2. CC
3. Com USA
4. Tweeter
I worked at BB awile ago. they treat employes like crap, don't give You full time, cheaper for them. 99% people working there don't know nothing about product.
all they tell You is "would You like to buy extended warranty ? " (which is BS anyway)
try to return something to BB or CC. it's a complete nightmare.
best place I ever worked at was a Good Guys. till jack a$$es from Comp USA bought them and ran it to the ground
