Disability Insurance - Must Read !!

MAJOR FYI !!

For those of you who have long term disability insurance, either employer provided or individual, visit and read the link below. My employer unforturnately opted for the cheapest LTD available and now I'll be attorney shopping and probably flipping burgers for Burger King. Social Security considers me totatlly disabled and the insurance carrier says I'm not eligible for any benefits as my doctor says I can lift 10 pounds

Let's see if I remember correctly - - "Would you like fries with that?"

Well that stinks. Another thing to look for is if the disability policy contains a clause that coordinates your benefit with your Social Security Disability Income. My wife's employer had a policy that provides 50% income coverage until age 65 with a 90 day waiting period. After her accident she got:

- 100% pay for short-term-disability for 90 days.
- 50% pay for 90 - 180 days from the disability insurance.
- 50% of pay for 180 - days combined benefit of SSDI & disability.
