This weekend my brother and I took my son camping along the banks of the Delaware River. I was going to take the minivan but figured the Caddy would be more comfortable even though it's not the best vehicle for the terrain.
Needless to say I was the only non 4WD vehicle there, but the DTS hauled all of the gear nicely and in style. I got a few strange looks rolling up in a Cadillac but it worked out great. I had a power inverter going for light and laptop power (for music and DVDs) and the remote starter allowed me to fire it up once in a while to charge the battery.
It got REAL cold last night and I was tempted to abandon the tent and sit in the warm car with the heated seats fired up. But I hung in there.
The car did get a bit muddy, but having spent some time under a river I'm sure it doesn't mind.
Looks like you guys had a lot of fun. I like the pictures as well. Your son looks adorable, I remember when my dad took me camping.
Thanks! We did have fun. I hadn't been camping in a tent since I was his age (5) so it was interesting. The campground folks said to watch out for bear but the worst of it was when a racoon tried to make off with a bag of marshmallows. I thought I had put all the food in the car but forgot about that bag of marshmallows. When I heard the rustling of the plastic bag a little after midnight I was afraid to look outside. But I did and saw the racoon wobbling away when he saw my light.
It's going to take a while for my son to stop insisting all his food get cooked over an open fire. He had a good time.

I never thought about the rarity of the cloth top. I suppose most people put them on the base model so finding a cloth top on a DTS is rare since there aren't many DTS' anyway. The car is a flood total and the guy I bought it from had two White Diamond 2001 DTS'. One had the top, the other didn't. I wanted the one without the top but the engine was no good so I got the top. I didn't like it at first but it's growing on me.
Hey man I'm with you 100% on this. I've taken both my 90 Fleetwood, when I had it, and the 93 Brougham camping. I also got some strange looks but we know we look cool doing it.
