Actually though if you think about it its NOT THAT BAD of an idea. Its kinda like autopsies on people that's how we know how many people die from what maladies. With cars we could accumulate significant data as to what type of conditions caused fatal car accidents, how fast people really do drive, etc. We would know on an industry wide basis what safety apparatus works, adn what additional needs we have to make cars safer.

I'm really against this - talk about George Orwell's 1984 - pretty scarry.

One of the routes I take to work has recently installed poles with devices that look like big transponders. Every 2nd or third pole also has a camera. I've gotten to the point I remove the batteries from my SunPass traffic toll device so I can't be tracked. I believe these transponders could be part of the system your link points to.

The information could be used to track lots of things - how far you drive what time of day - Should you be out at 3 am, what are you doing kinda questions arise, big brother wants to know.

Why don't you guys rent STS's and DTS's instead of crap boxes? My nephew and I drove from Nashville to Bristol in a Deville wide open in second gear and listening to that great exhaust note.

I'd say most of this thread is perfect reasoning as to why "big brother" might need to be watching.

Looks to me like some people are proving thier case for them.

YES!!!!!!! back in high school my friend got in a wreck and he had to get a rental car. he got a brand new Neon with a hand brake... we would ride through the mall parking lot at about 70mph and pull that thing and jerk the wheel. haha its a wonder we didnt flip (although it was close a few times) but we did some crazy spinning in that thing. about three months later his older sister bought one and we would take it out and do the same thing. she didnt care but we had to buy her a new hand brake about 2 times.
