Today my grandma gave me and my cousins some stuff that belonged to my grandpa who died two Januarys ago. I got the gold Seiko watch that he wore everyday. I was extatic, this thing reminds me of him so much because I always saw him wearing it. I think he won it playing cards in a club or something to that extent. My mom also recieved a ring that belonged to my grandpa's mother. This particular ring one of my idiot uncles lost in a craps game. My grandpa then walked down to the club and stayed there for two whole days playing and won it back. I don't have a pic of the ring, my mom stashed it somewhere, real nice lookin' though. The watch I can now add along with my white gold star sapphire ring that was also his to my collection of sentimental things that remind me of him. The star sapphire he gave me when he was still alive. He disliked this one big red star ring I wore on my pinky and said "Here, take this one, it looks better than that shit." Haha. I've been told since he died that I'm a lot like him and my grandma sees a lot of him in me. Very flattering Anyway, here's the watch......

Grand Dad's old razor, but it isn't like
I can go around shaving. That isn't a
hidden "Pulp Fiction" watch either.
A Watch can be worn in constant; yet,
silent pride.
It is a great memory for you; one which
can't help but be cherished.
Best Regards,

And it's funny that TomDeville mentions the "pulp fiction" watch thing because that's the first thing that came to mind while thinking of sentimental value attached to a watch.

I didn't get a thing either...woulda been nice to even just have a posession of theirs....SHEESH! I never met my grandma on my dad's side; I met my grandpa on my dad's side but he had a stroke before I was born, so I never really got to know him, he lived in NY also. He passed away a few years ago. I met my grandma on my mom's side when I was really young but she passed away due to cancer, and I still see my grandpa on my mom's side but not often cuz he is in LA. I wish I had more family around, and I wish they lived closer to us!
I have no idea why I just shared that LOL |

I do love you; a lot.
When you are around,
my knees get weak.
What would I do without you?

Great story about your grandpa, Dope. It's nice you had the opportunity to really know him, and now you can carry a little bit of him with you.
Since a few others are reminiscing here, I'll do the same:
A few weeks ago, I was bored and Googled my last name since it's unusual (at least here in the States; seems to be much more common in Canada). Besides finding there's a teacher in Pennsylvania with the same name as my ex-wife, I also found my grandfather.
He was active in the New Hampshire Trapper's Association, and two months before he died in 1984, he was on the cover of the National Trapper's Association magazine. My parents still have a copy of that cover framed at home, so it was really something to find it on the Internet. It turns out the NH Trapper's Association gives out an annual service award in my grandfather's name.
It's been 22 years since he died, and I still miss him. I see my Dad with my sisters' kids and there's that same bond that my grandfather had with me and my sisters. I once ran across a picture of my grandfather holding my little sister and one of my Dad holding my niece, and the expression on their faces—both the grandfathers and their granddaughters—was identical.
My grandfather made his living as a carpenter, and he built a beautiful little Cape Cod style house about 50 years ago where my step-grandmother still lives. Whenever I've gone back to New Hampshire for a visit, I can still feel his presence in that house.
