head gasket

Remove this ad
can you have a blown head gasket and not over heat? it has some white smoke coming out the tail pipe

I had a '93 Allante' with those symptoms, and thought it was a blown head gasket. Got all the parts, and borrowed the tool for the thread inserts. But after pulling the engine apart, we found a crack down the cylinder sleeve.

What year and model is the car? How much white smoke are you talking about? Where are you located? This info would help.

If it's a northstar engine go to the northstar section (if you haven't already.) Search for the diagnostic procedures for headgaskets, ask questions there, you'll get a better response there.

The answer to your question is yes, at least for a while. What does the smole smell like? Fuel or coolant? Your question would get better response in the Northstar section.
