| New book: Go Like Hell ! New book on the street by A.J. Baime: "Go Like Hell !!", the story of Ford's all-out fight to unseat Ferrari as the European road racing champion marque, culminating with the Ford GT40/Mk4 1 - 2 - 3 win at le Mans in 1966, going farther, longer, faster than any previous 24-hour.
The European reaction was to ban Ford from Euro road racing. So Ford came home and kicked the snot out of everybody, Ferrari and Jaguar included, at the 24 hour Daytona Continental. I was fortunate to be there, in the infield. Truly awesome racing. Anyone remember Jim Hall's Chaparrals ? or the McLaren/ELVA/Chevys prepped by Traco and Nickey Chevrolet in (Chicago(?))......the mid-late 60's saw some wild factory stuff on the tracks. NASCAR was still "stock car racing". |
