And I double dog dare ya! And that is why Cadillac was the "Standard of the World" in the post-war years. Cadillac needs a Sixteen or something similar to it to get it back into the world prestige ranks. |

That's probably the finest, most desirable, hardest to find classic Cadillac ever. The '59 line is great and all, but they were never as rare or expensive as the Eldorado Broughams, especially the 1957-58's.

That is an Eldorado Brougham. They are rather rare (they made like 1200 of them) and back in the day they were the most expensive car you could buy, more than a Rolls Royce. There is a guy in the local Cadillac club around me that owns one. Elias has a picture of it somewhere. They were so advanced they even had memory seats, and that was the late 50's.

It looks pretty rough to me for $120,000. Lots of rusty and dirty stuff in the engine compartment. I'd be looking it over close. I'll bet there are some unpleasant surprises. If it were any good they wouldn't have to be flogging it on Ebay; it'd be at Barrett-Jackson or Mecom.

I mean, you couldn't drive it unless you had a private test track... It would be easier to replace a '59 than that thing... |

Oh come on guys, the Eldorado Brougham was a show that Cadillac sold to the public, and I agree with Chad, without a doubt the most desirable "collectable" post war Cadillac. Along with the more usable Continental Mark II (1956-57) a real high water mark for American prestige cars .... both of them beat the hell out of the Mercedes 300s and the Rolls Silver Clouds of the day. Let's face it America had "hutz pah" (sp) in the 50's.
$120,000. doesn't seem that bad considering that "muscle cars" are bringing more than that, ofcourse it really is a question of "condition." |

The Gilmore Car Museum, in Hickory Corners, MI has one and they let you get right up next to it. They are very liberally in how close they let you get to look inside and around vehicles. Beautiful car, to say the least. |

I've also had the pleasure of sitting in one. The former Minneapolis chief of police has one, and I got to sit in it at a car show a few years ago. I remember it having extremely deep, plush carpeting, which if I remember correctly, was lambswool. |

That was the standard of the world right there.. I wonder if there ANY way Cadillac could make a new car using styling characteristics of this Eldorado...
