View this question through whatever lens you choose (historical, styling, racing, overall influence, or whatever criteria you feel is appropriate) If you were to construct an "Automotive Mount Rushmore," what four faces would you carve in the mountain?
Here's my selection:
1. Karl Benz, for his numerous patents making the automobile feasible.
2. Henry Ford, for putting the world on wheels.
3. Alfred P. Sloan, for perfecting automotive branding.
4. Harley Earl, for perfecting automotive styling.
So, what about YOU? |

So, what about YOU? | I'd replace Sloan with Ed Cole, the chief engineer behind the Chevy small-block V8 who later ran Chevrolet, then GM.
And while Harley Earl was the first great stylist for a U.S. car company, I think GM's reached its pinnacle in terms of styling during the 60s when Bill Mitchell was head of design.

1. Karl benz.
2. Henry M Leland, for his part in the early car industri. -Motors for Oldsmobile, Cadillac, Lincoln.
3. Henry Ford, also for his part in the early industri. -The Company pre Cadillac, bring the car to the masses.
4. Carl Edvard Johansson. Who is he?
He is the man that invented the Johansson Gauge Blocks, or Jo blocks, the thing that was needed to be able to revolutionate the industri in the early 1900 with precision made produkts in massproduktion.
Henry M Leland said.
- There are only two people I take off my hat to. One is the president of the United States and the other is Mr. Johansson.

2. Henry Leland
3. Smokey Yunick
4. Bill Mitchell
Benz - that one's obvious. Creator of the automobile.
Leland - A luxury genius. Let's not just create one world-class automobile, how about two?
Yunick - The coolest mechanic who ever lived. What anybody's who ever held a wrench should hope to be someday.
Mitchell - Is there a better designer who ever lived?
