In stark contrast to my last movie question, I ask the opposite today: What is the best movie you've ever seen?
Sometimes, when watching a movie, it becomes evident that it is something special. Like my first viewing of The Usual Suspects - where every single piece of the puzzle fits so cohesively in the story.
I'll kick it off with The Godfather. The first time a saw this movie it blew my mind. Honestly I can't think of a fault with the movie. Part II was excellent as well. Part III, not so much. |

The aerial photography was like nothing ever seen up to that point, throw in a kicking soundtrack, some great one liners and so on, and I was hooked. Mind you I was only a kid at the time, but it's remained my favourite.
In terms of movies with real significance, combining good cinamatography, acting, plot and so on, it's a really tough question as there is a lot of good stuff however I'll point out that 99% of movies in the last 10 years are complete ****. Too much emphasis on over the top special effects and no real movie underneath... |

Certain movies are amazing pieces of cinema, but are films you really don't want to watch more than a few times (Godfather, Raging Bull and Gone with the Wind come to mind).
Other movies are total fluff, but are so well written and fun to watch that I can watch them 30 times and still enjoy it (like 40 year-old Virgin and The Matrix).

I liked Top Gun for what it was, a cocky fighter jock movie. It brought back memories of the USS Midway. The acting sucked tho.
Anyway to size a linked jpg from my website? |

My favorite movie and one I have watch many times is "Empire of the Sun." A great story, excellent acting and direction, and super cinematography. Not th best in each category but superior in all three. "lawrence of Arabia" and "Godfather" would be right up there also. |

For me it's either The Godfather Part II (for the plot twists and that ending....omg!!) Or The Deer Hunter, for it's plotline, story twists, wide range of emotions, great actors playing great characters you can really connect with. And once again, another killer (lol) ending. |

I am stuck between "The Illusionist" and "Mr. Brooks." However, I am also a huge fan of "The Butterfly Effect" and "The Shawshank Redemption."
If you think that "Mr. Brooks" is a horror movie and that you will not like it you are mistaken. It is a psychological thriller that lets you see inside the mind of a criminal. The only real violent/gruesome part is at the very beginning and it is short lived. I do not like scary/slasher films at all but this one really peaked my interest.

Lord of the Rings trilogy comes to mind. Best special effects/cineamtography of any movie, EVER. Great acting as well.
V for Vendetta is another one of my favorites.
For stupid movies, Harold and Kuhmar go to White Castle, Harold and Kuhmar escape from Guantanamo Bay, Happy Gilmore, National Lampoon's Vacation, and Caddyshack. |

Best movies ever? Probabaly not, but there is something about them, that makes me want to watch:
- Full Metal Jacket
- Talledagah Nights - The Legend of Ricky Bobby
TN is an odd choice I know, but it just kills me every time I watch it.
