Only stupid close minded individuals would support giving a company this much money, while their business plan still has major flaws AND the same stupid executive that has run them into the ground, is still charge.
As far as Im concerned, no bailouts unless all the execs are fired, at least.
How can CEO Wagoneeeer expect gov't to give him handouts, while he flies to Washington on a private jet? I dont give shit that the cost of one flight means nothing to the larger financial picture. Waagoner was either dumb (highly doubtful) or arrogant when he made the choice to fly GM's private jet to the meetings with the Senate.
I still don't believe 3 millions jobs would be lost permanently... The British auto industry is thriving now, and they produce almost intirely imports to the UK, since they have no real domestic brands anymore...
Im really tired of old guys saying that you dont support GM if you dont agree with the bailout... Unless they change things, this is only a bandaid... |

Private jetting serves a purpose. Symbol, my ass...

And there have been plenty of reports of the Big CEOs abusing jet priviledges, Wagoner included. If theres anytime to be symbolic its now. If it wasnt a time to be symbolic, why would Nardelli make a statement saying he'll work for a salary of $1?
Perception is as big a problem for GM as anything else. Thats why Im not convinced that this money will do any good. How can they be certain the public wants to buy GM vehicles again, just because their good? Toyotas could be catching on fire spontaneously, but half the country would still buy them... |

Toyota does lobby the US government as much as or more than the Big Three, and Japan's policies on trade are not as friendly as ours. The question then is less about what is, and more about how to deal with it. |

Everyone cries foul when he or I criticize the imports in the 8,000 threads about how wonderfultastic and superrific everything foreign is, so I suggest you all take the same advice you give us when you post anti-GM threads:

I think turning over pension and healthcare cost for the auto workers to the federal government and thus the taxpayer isn,t solving the problem in the long run. Should there be a competitive edge given to those who arrived late in the game after the market had already been created (let's face it the wages and benefits of the auto industry went a long way in creating an affluent middle class in the US) to allow newcomer's to come in and exploit the marketplace without paying the true cost. seems foolish. First came VW then Toyota et al. now Hyundai and let's not forget Cherry on the horizon. If the trend continues unabated the American middle class will be pushed back to pre-WW2 levels of prosperity.

Suck it up and respect the man's right to post facts that back up his opinions. | Wah, wah, wah! It's a car forum! Would you believe that people actually talk about more then one car brand on a car forum!?
I mean who in their right mind would talk about something other then Cadillac in this section of the forum? I mean look at the description for this area, " Only non-Cadillac discussion goes here. Cadillac discussions belong elsewhere." so why are you surprised to find stuff on foreign cars and other car brands in this area? | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
