The Dodge Viper ACR is now the king of the 'Ring, posting a 7:22 Nordschleife lap time.

Same with the ZR1, they weren't running Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires. |

There had been some work done on the track, an additional 1.5 miles had been added, and this was the present track in use. For a gag, another driver went out to qualify, took the 1.5 mile short cut, and cut Nuvolari's time by over a minute. Tazio was astounded and embarrassed. He jumped in his car and cut another qualifying lap while driving like a wild man. He lowered his own previous time by over a minute and again had the pole except he drove all the way around. Nobody had the nerve to tell him what the other guy had done.
If you're wondering who Tazio Nuvolari was, he's the greatest race car driver who ever lived. Before racing cars he raced Grand Prix motorcycles. One time he had a tremendous crash while practicing for the cycle race and broke both legs. The next morning he had a couple of mechanics carry him out and tie him on his motorcycle. He won the race. There was no need to exaggerate his exploits because the truth exceeded anything that anybody could dream up.

Do driver's really stop at stoplight's and proclaim to the car next to them that their car is a few seconds faster when driven by a professional on a racetrack few will ever see thousands of miles away?
This is such an obscure performance benchmark it amazes me how it has become so prevalent. |

Its 7 freakin seconds over a 13 MILE track. It would have to be at least a minute difference for me to even care. 7 seconds over 13 miles is not that big a gain. Its not like it completely blew the Corvette or the Nissan out of the water. I don't know if they use the same drivers for all the cars (I doubt they do) but I bet if they did they would all be very close to equal (less than a second or two difference). |

I mean its kinda interesting, but only so much. Another thing I don't get is the Viper... $80k for something as sparse as a Hyundai Accent? Why bother? The Z06 is a better all around car for $10k-$15 less. |

Much more than anything as a garage queen, or certainly daily driver. So if an individual is looking for a track car, Dodge is pretty much building them one, a quick one, off the floor. No need to buy something and modify the crap out of it to make it a solid track piece. | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
