| | | Population Control I'm about 26 minutes into the documentary "The World According To Monsanto" - and so far, I've come to the conclusion that the only reason they're allowed to continue to operate via our government is to accelerate population control. I'm sure Monsanto's objective is simply to make money. That's fine. But for our government to allow them to continue to operate, in the interest of human life, seems obsurd...
This probably sounds ridiculous to you - but I invite you to watch this documentary with an OPEN MIND - and see what conclusion YOU come to.
You probably won't be able to find it. It's been banned everywhere (from Google Videos and YouTube, for example) noting Copyright Infringement. However, if you're very familiar with the internet, you can find anything...

| | | Re: Population Control Only reply if you have something constructive to add. I don't want to hear about which documentaries you like and don't like - and I don't want to hear about people's opinions on documentaries in general. I don't expect any replies, honestly. And that's a major shame for what appears to be a very intellectual community of people. |

| | | Re: Population Control Interesting on how Monsanto gets blasted on how they're going to be the end of the human race, when the sky is falling panic buzzwords of the moment are food prices and food shortage.
And as far as it being banned, I'm sure someone who wears hemp and hasn't washed their hair in 3 weeks is playing it right now on a portable DVD player standing out on Olive Blvd right now, waiting for the news van to drive by...

| | | Re: Population Control So far I haven't been able to locate anything other than trailers. The one bit of information I was able to glean was that this thing was developed by some dame researching the internet. The author was looking to make a big splash. That's scary in itself. So far I haven't seen any reactions by ADM or one of the other agrigiants. As it is, millions of people worldwide are facing food shortages because of agriculture being diverted to bio-fuels. If the people trying to increase crop yields like Monsanto are curtailed, we're looking at real catastrophe in the third world. Monsanto isn't alone in this area of experimentation. Every agricultural college in the world is looking at the same kind of thing.
One source I found says that the French dreamed this little production up because they are sore losers at getting their butt kicked in the agricultural area because their production falls far short of that in Blackhawk County in Iowa.

| | | Re: Population Control My wife is a farm girl from Iowa and she says that a good part of what I turned up in internet searches on the hatchet job that's being run on Monsanto is just standard practice in agribusiness. When you buy seed corn to plant your crop most seed corn suppliers make you sign an agreement that you won't sell any part of your crop for seed corn or use it again yourself because that puts them out of business much like music performers have to pay for rights to commercially perform music. The work and research to produce the seed corn is intellectual property and is protected. It's not some filthy underhanded plot. The socialists in France don't understand private propety rights. |

| | | Re: Population Control re: Population Control. Do the numbers. You can put the entire 6Bil+ population of the world in an area the size of Texas and each person would have about 1000sq ft. That's not a practical situation but it puts overpopulation in perspective. |

Good post, Koz.. Well.. Consider the fact that Monsanto is positioning itself to pretty-much OWN the rights to food.. I'm not sure how I feel about that... |

Good post, Koz.. Well.. Consider the fact that Monsanto is positioning itself to pretty-much OWN the rights to food.. I'm not sure how I feel about that... | Sal, I agree that the issue is resources though not the amount rather, the control of those resources as you are showing concern for in your statement about Monsanto owning the rights to food. There have been discussions amongst those in the know since the 70's that I can remember regarding genetically engineered seeds which produce an abundant harvest but is good only for consumption as it is reproductively sterile. This forcing farmers and anyone else returning to suppliers for more seed. Control. It's all about control. Wealth, power, control.
For decades the United States has had the ability to produce enough crops the feed not only our entire hemisphere but much, if not all of the world, yet our government subsidizes farmers to limit crops. Yes, that brings up a myriad of financial arguments which are pertinent to this discussion. Then add to ours the capacity of other nations around the world who are able to produce food and other commodities. The possibilities for supply on this rich planet have yet to be depleted, in fact have been in process of recycling long before the term was ever conceived.
Add to the available resources our knowledge and ingenuity and the possibilities are limited only by government regulations! Look at what the Israelis were able to do, turning deserts into gardens.
We are ham-strung by politics. |

| | | Re: Population Control I work with someone who grew up on a corn and bean farm, and he's told me stories about the thousands of pounds of crops they were instructed to destroy every year. The "food shortage" being hysterically reported on is yet another example of artificially driving up demand (and thus, prices) through fear.
Fear is the only thing that sells better than sex.
