Holy Cow, 200 mph is fast. I couldn't imagine going that fast for that long in a car built for the street.

Re: New ZR1 200 MPH in car

I think I saw 207. Seems a little slow for that car though... 638hp is a nice number.

Watching that again... did he short shift from 5th to 6th? Shifted into 6 at around 165 or so.

Re: New ZR1 200 MPH in car

that's really cool.

Quick story. I had a neighbor who was about 28 yrs old and his dad had a corvette. It was a mid to early 90's corvette. Anyway, he was drunk and the cops tried to pull him over in the corvette and he totally outran them. Story goes that he got up to 185 mph in it but i wasn't there so I can't corroborate. He pulled off the highway, got out of the car, got in the passenger seat and took the keys out of the ignition. The cops found him sleeping about a half an hour later, he got arrested, and but he ended up getting off on the charges because his dad got him a good lawyer.

about 8 years later he committed suicide. He was a drunk and had a lot of issues.

Re: New ZR1 200 MPH in car

The readout did hit 207... and that was with 2 passengers and x-number of lbs of video and electronic equipment... So I'd say with just one person it could easily hit 210. I don't know what the gearing is like on this thing... but I wouldn't be surprised if this engine had a bit more to give... it definitely sounded like it was limited by man and not so much by nature, because it was still pulling really well all the way up to the top.

That makes it about 20MPH short of Dale Earnhardt's Monte Carlo when they ran it against a 962 Porsche on Volkswagon's track in Germany. It ate the 962 alive.
