Best Buy issuing $50 gift card for those who bought an HD-DVD player
I just got mine in the mail, huzzah!
I like how they assure me I can still continue to enjoy HD-DVDs Though I'm considering that trade-in program they mentioned, depending on how much I would get for everything.

Well isn't that cute. Meanwhile them, Circuit City, Sears and others are in hot water right now for continuing to sell analog televisions with no indication that they will essentially be worthless after February 2009. Apparently stores are supposed to be informing customers that analog televisions will no longer work without converter boxes, either through packaging or notices on store displays for THAT item (not just as a sales tactic to sell newer digital TVs as Best Buy does).

Huh. EXCELLENT customer service, as far as I'm concerned.
On the TV thing, if consumers don't do their research and are talked into buying crap or buy crap unintentionally, too goddamned bad. It's not the store's fault that the consumer doesn't know what the hell they want to buy.

EXACTLY...now if only all the marketing, commercials, etc. playing this up would correctly state this.
They all make it sound like every TV that isn't brand new and HD, etc. will be useless, when in fact it's largely just an antenna situation.
I can't tell you how many people even that I just know who thought they needed to replace their cable connected, fairly recent TV's based on what they heard...

And again, its their own damned fault for not looking into it before trusting someone that is, by their very nature, trying to take their money from them! I NEVER believe advertisements. I could have an ad tell me that dirt is dirty and their product proves it and I would spend a week trying to figure out if dirt was really clean.
