Cadillac Forums: Malibu... ITS ON! 2010 Ford Taurus SPIED
It is a good looking, if not groundbreaking, design, it just looks like a "high rider" in these pictures--hopefully just a side effect of the non-production looking wheels. We'll see soon enough.
That said, as a new Malibu owner, the Taurus isn't exactly a direct competitor, as it's a size class up--the Malibu matches against the Fusion. It's more an Impala competitor, and in that sense, definitely a more modern, roomy, refined, etc. car (in current form) so this only takes that further with looks.
Just like rumored from Ford, taking the same fantastic guts again from the current models (I believe) but finally giving the exterior and interior looks of the right caliber. Well, except for the very high stance, at least here. And again, nothing incredibly groundbreaking, just sort of what should have been as a volume Ford sedan for a long time--tasteful, but nothing more. Have to see more, clearer, larger, and other views.
I hope Ford makes it because my Mom lives on Ford retirement and I get them at Z plan price (yet I drive a Cadi, LOL).The Firestone/Exploder deal KILLED Ford Motor Company. I have always liked their interiors over GMs Rubbermaid but their exterior and engines have left much to be desired.
I also work in a town with a Ford Explorer and SuperDuty plant so the local economy is dependant on Fords so I hope they do well as it keeps my property value high. That being said, I wont buy a Ford till they get the whole package together. The Intercetor is a good start IF they actually make the damn car.

You're right, I thought about the Impala but I didn't even bring it up because to do so would be an embarrasment compared to this Taurus. Its obvious based on the current advertising that GM has it's eggs in the Malibu basket right now until the Impala gets it's turn at the redesign wheel (and hopefully RWD, which would again secure it's supremacy to the Ford).
I guess if you want to take it a step further, this then would probably be more of a Lacrosse competitor.

I am still waiting to see whats going on for Lincoln when they end the current Town Car in a couple years. There is no way a SUV/Crossover should be able to replace it... Lincoln needs another large *car* and it should remain the Town Car, not become alphabet soup.... ah well.
What is the Z plan pricing? thru work I can get X plan pricing on new Fords.... still tho, on a $20k car, it takes off like $2k, not a whole lot... but... yeah, dosen't go along with my "get out of debt, stay out of debt" plan...

Z Plan is the same as A plan. A is for current employees and Z for retirees. X is A/Z +4%.
Plan pricing isnt really percentage set (cept on Rovers which was 11%). The more expensive the vehicle, the more profit that is built in, the more you get off. I got over $6k off my LS and over $5k off my F150 Supercrew Lariet. The more optioned out the vehicle is the more you get off because of the mark up. Not much mark up in a Focus, thus not much off.
Hey NightWolf... ever think Lincoln could go back to its roots and call its large car the Continental again? Maybe even offer it with suicide doors? 4-door convertible, anyone? Those old boats kicked ass. If Ford kills the Panther platform around the time GM brings out a RWD full-size, GM might win back the fleet sales. They should call the low-end models Caprice Classics. Every cop and cabby in the world would want one, they were the best cars you could get for that job. Think about it... Caprices for Police departments, Taxis, rental firms, etc. (with of course the ability to order one for yourself if you wanted it) and Impalas for the masses! Cripes I hope GM gives us a decent RWD car again... I'm so sick of Wrong-wheel drive...

I'll tell you what. If Ford skimps on quality and cuts corners as badly as they did from the 2004 Town Car to the 2007, which is basically the same damn car, I will jump to an overstock DTS with its FWD and not as reliable drivetrain IN A SECOND!
My 2004 was reliable and had little minor issues. My 2007 had its blend door actuator replaced at 8,000(!!!) miles. The driver's seat is broken(and before anyone questions my build, my 2004 went 218,000miles without an issue), the serpentine belt was missing a rib, the climate control blows air erratically, the drive-by-wire is pure torture(throttle tip-in and off is NOT smooth and it stutters at low speeds), the computer thinks I need washer fluid when it's full and states I need an oil change at less than 3,000 miles, the suspension has been dialed in to be way too stiff with very slow rebound on the rear suspension(if you don't go really slow on speed bumps the rear crashes down), the leather is a drab grey instead of black, the steering wheel is changed in that it's harder to grab comfortably and the wheel's buttons are cheap an inconsistent in their function, there is no double visor shade nor Homelink, a headlight went out at 33,000 miles and the car sways much worse than the '04. And I paid an extra $1,500 over my '04 for that POS.
Some companies try to mask where they cut corners and/or costs. And some make it obvious.
