Re: Strange products from China and Japan

Part of that is the language problem. The other is because Japan is wacky.

Re: Strange products from China and Japan

One of the things I've noticed during my international travels is that the countries that criticize us the loudest are also trying their best to adopt the worst parts of our culture for themselves.

Re: Strange products from China and Japan

I lived in Japan for 2 1/2 years back in the late 60's early '70s and had quite a collection of Japanese cultural and linquistic faux pas. My favorite was 1970's Seiko watch Season's Greetings which were plastered all over Japan .......... a purple backgound with watermellon pink Star of David enclosing "Merry Christmas." One would think with all the gazillion hours that the Japanese spend on learning English that they could produce a few competent translators. Well, at least the directions for the products have improved!

All over Europe you see T-shirts and apparel with meaningless American words and/or phrases.

Re: Strange products from China and Japan

And all over this country are similar misuses of Oriental characters (they apparently rather look like art to us...). Those who are fluent in the language will point out similar hillarity.

Re: Strange products from China and Japan

The thing is I don't think Japan does criticize America, and they embrace your culture... no... they worship and impersonate it more than any other nation on Earth.

Personally, I can not stand the Japanese and their quirky culture.
