On the third floor of the warehouse, next to my pallets and boxes, I stumbled upon this little Datsun. I have no idea who it belongs to or if it runs, but its just tiny enough to fit on the freight elevator and find its way up here.
Bad light. Blurry pics.
The body is salvageable but the interior is pooched. Not too shabby. I thought it was neat to see an entire car sitting on the third floor of a building. |

Jesda, Is that a Datsun Dream ? If so, it has a straight 6 with two or three side draft carbs and a 4(?) speed. Damn fast for what it was. Late 50's.
Mechanical nightmare....I used to work on the first Datsuns (Nissan Motors), that came into the country in the mid-late 50's at McLean Motors in Georgetown, DC. Most of 'em rusted out in less than a year which is why there aren't any left, except your find. |

Now, wonder who put it there...or is it valuable/collectible, for those that know? |

It's a Datsun Fairlady (Japanese market name), I believe it was the "1500" here in the states. The car began to be imported, I believe, in 1964. One of my room mates at U of W Madison had one in "64. They became somewhat popular in So Cal and were raced in SCCA races in the late sixties. It was a Japanese maker's first attempt to market a sports car in the US (I don't remember if Honda's 850 Sports preceded it, don't think so). If I remember correctly it won its Class Championship in SCCA racing driven by Pete Brock and Frank Monise and was the precurser to the very successfully campigned Daysun 510 cars that were very successfully raced by BRE Racing driven by Morton in the late 60's. These cars, ofcourse, were completely overshadowed by their hugely successful successors the the 280Z. |

So if you visit there on a regular basis, how did you not notice this before? It just seems odd that you would pass up a car on the 2nd or 3rd floor of a warehouse and not think twice about it. |
