So I'm at the auto show tonight and I dread as I enter the Dodge/Chrysler area. I'm looking at a group of 300s. I see one that looks muscular like a 300C. But it doesn't have chrome mirrors. So I look at the wheels and they look like SRT-8 wheels. And I see a SRT badge on the open trunklid. So I go back to look under the hood and it has a 5.7 HEMI, WTF? So I look inside and it has the SRT-8 seats. Again, WTF? So I go back to the trunklid and I see the SRT badge. But it's different.
It's an SRT Design badge. It's really a 300C. Egads, another mooch idea for the poser buyer...

It's simply called the SRT design package--no more than it looks to be. Gives you the body effects and similar wheels to the SRT-8, plus the seats, but also still just the regular C's 5.7L, etc. Not everyone wants the extreme performance, gas guzzler, etc. of the full SRT-8...but might like the look, which is why Chrysler did it. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2007-...QQcmdZViewItem
Another perfect example? The MANY "AMG design package" Mercedes. They don't have the supercharged monster under the hood, etc., but have similar trim inside and out, and the wheels...and again are popular. And Mercedes has offered them as such for years.
So, nothing really bad--especially because it's all manufacturer. Unlike some owner with a cheap model dressing up their car as a fake.
I'd buy one...because I wouldn't want the "too much" 6.1L for daily use, but like the look, seats, exhaust, etc. |

Great, so now we're gonna have a million and one Ebay dealers and Autotrader sellers passing their "SRT Designs" off as "BRAND NEW 2008 CHRYSLER 300 SRT!". Making that ebay search all the more confusing.
So it would appear that MBZs tentacles have not fully released their clutch on Chrysler execs just yet.
The options look gorgeous, I dont think anyone's doubting that... but they should be marketed as dealer installed options like alot of dealers do, not as a confusing package with the same name as what is supposed to be a special performance package. |

But I've never seen an "AMG design" Mercedes. I've seen sport packages that look muscular, but nothing in common with an AMG. AMG doesn't let itself become fodder for posers. The same for BMW's M.
But that's all right. The 300 is the ultimate poser car anyway. |

Jim, there are AMG Sport Packages for various models. The SL has had them since the late '90s....for those, it was the AMG monospokes, tasteful ground effects, a performance tire and a sport shift knob. Which I think is pretty tasteful and restrained, yet visually powerful, as far as these sort of things go. |

Yep, you're absolutely right, Chad. The only key but very minor difference was that, at least on the SL, the AMG kit was marketed under the "Sport" moniker... NOT SL500 "AMG". In other words, by selecting the Sport package on the option sheet, you got all the AMG goodies sans the powertrain. |

I've seen Sport models but the ones I've seen are different than AMG pieces... | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
