Let's hear what you've got to say!
I'm not totally sure what it is in my opinion, I've got a few choices.
For me, a car is great because it's the product of human thought and emotion, and it's got to have a lot of breakthrough & innovative technologies along with a lot of luxury features, it's got to have a design that pleases me and speaks to my emotion. Reliability and durability go a long way too, as does the aesthetic appeal, inside and out. Also, I like a car that's crafted to the highest standards, and built to a limited number, not your everyday carbon copy uber reliable family sedan.
-W140 S Class
-Not picked because I own it, I bought it because I believe it's the best.
-Lexus LS400
-Always striving for perfection, constantly getting better, super super reliable track record, many examples with more than 300k on them and going strong. They literally never break. The only reason I didn't buy one is because I didn't want Toyota or JDM in general, and they're rather bland.
-Lamborghini Countach.
- It was 50 years ahead of it's time when it came out in '76, and it's still
20 years ahead of it's time.
-Cadillac Seville STS 1992-97
- Finally, the americans produced a luxury/sport sedan worth lusting over. It looked Italian, drove German, and was comfortable and feature laden like only the Germans could do. The start of a revolution at Cadillac.

Eloquently spoken and true to it's sentiment.. I couldn't have said it better myself.
I could list several vehicles which I could say are the greatest, but there's only one, for me at least, that rings as true to what you said.
Because of that I can only think of three words... Jeep Grand Wagoneer. |

It of course is the Ford Model T.
It made the car a household name and gave the working man the abiltiy to own a car.
Cars like Packard who had the first AC in 1940's
Chrysler had the First Cruise control in the 1950's
Benz had the first electric ABS in the 1930's
Buick the first electric turn signals in the 1930's
I~luv-Caddys, those are nice cars, but none even come close to being the greatest car ever. I usually agree with you but not this time.
Nothing really special or inovative about those cars except maybe the Lambo.
I love new stuff because it does many things better than old stuff.
But when you talk about the greatest car ever, It is well before any of those were made. |

I'm going to go out on a limb and nominate one of my all-time favorite cars (and no, it's not a '64 Impala). My nomination goes to the 1965 Buick Riviera Gran Sport:
A few reasons for my nomination: - Standout styling. The first-generation Riviera is rightly considered Bill Mitchell's masterpiece. The best-looking Buick ever and one of the most beautiful cars ever built by any manufacturer.
- Rarity. Buick purposely limited production of the first-generation Rivieras to 40,000 to maintain some exclusivity.
- Performance. The Buick Nailhead V-8 is well respected for its torque and durability. The Riviera is the perfect application for this engine.
- Ride and handling. In the context of its day, the Riviera GS was an outstanding road car with better-than-expected handling and certainly a smoother ride than most sporty cars.
It's hard to pick just one car, but if I had to pick just one, I'd want a dark blue '65 Riviera GS in my garage.

47 of the original 51 still exist. The original (projected) price: $2450. Current value: from about $200,000 on up (Tucker #1043 sold in a private transaction in 2005 for upwards of $750,000) How's that for value?
Safety firsts:
It had a laminated safety glass pop-out windshield, padded dashboard, and a place where the front-seat passenger could crouch in the event of a collision. Windows are armor-plate glass which disintegrates without cutting edges or slivers. A steel safety bulkhead surrounds the luggage compartment located under the hood, thus shielding the passenger compartment from head-on collisions far more effectively than the conventional front engine construction. A second steel safety bulkhead walls off the rear engine. It had a swiveling center headlight that tracked the wheels for greater visibility.
Engineering ideas:
The frame is lower than the center line of wheels, an exclusive feature made possible by locating the engine in the rear and eliminating the conventional drive shaft. This, combined with Tucker independent four-wheel suspension system, greatly reduces chances of skidding or overturning. The engine is a horizontally opposed rear-mounted flat six cylinder engine aluminum block produced by Franklin Aircooled Motors |
