The only way to know which way to go is to drive all the cars you are interested in. Find out as much info as you can about all. posit and neg then ask the people who own them to see what problems and experience they have had. But you don't ask one type of person about the other car!

If you wan't info on a Jag ask a Jag owner.

Buy the STS V and be done with it!

Sorry I've been out of the picture for so long...been in SoCal and southern Florida for the last month. I'll be back in Texas Friday the 19th. Hope to able to meet up with you all before I head back out on the road. You haven't seen the V lowered yet.

Re: Considering Jaguar S type R.....

I ain't keen on the S Type but R version seems pretty fast and reliable from what I see from the owners of it

One of my best friends is an engineer working at the Jaguar R&D site in Coventry,UK.
He told me not to get a Jaguar overall(even though he highly recommends trying out his fav,the XKR) becuase he's appalled by internal reliability records.
That's not very encouraging...

You've an outspoken and frank friend as you said one of your best friends as well. You should stay away from early V8 models between '98-00 .
Jags have many quirks but in regards to the engine durability especially X300 AJ6 is very reliable engine so is tranny .

Re: Considering Jaguar S type R.....

Geez, you'd think this weren't an open forumn in which to speak. We drive nice, fast cars but the quality is not perfect, not terrible either. Personally I have had better experieinces with German and Swedish cars than my Cadillac. Having said that I do like the V, fast and in general relaible but too many little things happen to it. The Jag R is a beautiful car, no doubt and yes you are right I should consult a Jag owner but that's like asking how good a V is here....nothing but positives so you don't get the true feel for it.

To answer the STS-V question, it's not out but I must say, I don't really care for the look as much as the V. Sharp but a little big for my tastes and the front wheels look stupid small on a car of that size.....makes no sense to me! I do have a lead on a silver one with few miles...we'll see!

Re: Considering Jaguar S type R.....

I love how they did the interiors in those cars. That dark grey burled maple really makes that car.
