Who here has their series 7 and is in the financial industry

I'm debating making a career change and getting into the financial industry(financial advisor). It was what I was going to do before my current position, but I took a little detour. I'm looking for as much advice as possible from who not to work for, great study books that are out there to practice, and feedback on the job/career itself. I'm still only 24 years old and have been in sales for the past four years. Thanks for the feedback

Re: Who here has their series 7 and is in the financial industry

Im actually your same age and have worked in Banking since 2001. Unfortunately, I work on the technical side but I do know for any serious position with the company the licenses are strongly recommended if not required, especially in investments. Truth be told the financial side of it is kind of a snooze to me, but it can be very lucrative if your good at sales, and promotions happen fast for the top performers. If you dont perform though, it can be just as ferocious.

Good luck, Sorry I couldnt give you more info.

Ian.

Re: Who here has their series 7 and is in the financial industry

My .02c...

1. Financial sector, if you're on the planning/stock side, can be extremely lucrative. But like most things you gotta stick with it long term. Most customers with big portfolios are going to want to deal with an older guy with lots of experience. You'll have to work your way up. I would advise work hard to be the best in your field and eventually the money will come to you.

2. In general, very few people get rich quick. Most young people you hear about getting rich quick are highly publicized rare cases, or BS-ers who are overly extended. However, it is commonplace to get rich slowly. Pick your career, be the best you can, live below your means, don't get divorced, and eventually you will be rich. And you'll get that 7 series plus much more.

3. You're in your 20s. Party and travel now. Plenty of time in your 30s to save, buy property, etc.

I guess I should get back to work. BTW I'm not in financial sector. But I am the best in my field!

Ha! I realize now what a series 7 is. I thought you were asking if you could make enough cash in the industry to buy a 7-series BMW.

Oh well it's a car board so I'm not too embarrassed.
