Notebook Fans Noise Problem

Remove this ad
I have two Sony Vaios .My first purchase is FS 570 and later one AX580 .
First one is too silent which is so nice to me and you can barely hear it's running .
Well, as for the latter which is AX580 ,it's too noisy to me and after using FS570 and then AX580 ,it disturbs me the noise level of it !
I asked a few computer persons and they all said such noises coming from the fans of AX580 is normal
The reason behind is that it's centrino .17" screen and performance machine .In a nutshell, the more performance you want the more noise you get ,so is that right ?
I hate those fans always kicking and giving out a terrible sound .I also used a Toshiba SP135 with 17" and PEntium 4 ,it was also similar to AX580 in regards to noise level .
Does anyone have a dual core thingy and know if it's also too noisy notebook ?
Thanks

Re: Notebook Fans Noise Problem

The dual core 2 runs a lot cooler and is practically silent.

Re: Notebook Fans Noise Problem

It shouldn't be loud all the time, the fans should only come on sometimes, and when they do it's a big rush of noise. I have a FS 840 and it's almost dead quiet all the time, but when the fans come on it gets real loud read quick.

I used to have a Vaio with a Pentium 4 in it, the fans in that were ALWAYS on. Quiet didn't exist with that thing.

My friend has a SOny Vaio laptop, dont know which kind but its a little bit older. That thing is SO loud. The fans are constantly running. Gets really annoying real fast.

Actually I should have added that my notebook is a Dell and it is practically silent. I don't know anything about the Vaio. However, the dual core 2 processor does run a lot cooler.

The first statement, that isn't 100% true. It is true that with more performance you will create more heat but cooling depends on the build. A Core 2 Duo is brand spanking new and it was designed to use less watts then its older Pentium 4. The architecture is also refined so that it performs better then any P4 on the market and at less wattage thus less heat and thus less noise (the fans should only kick in when the processor hits a certain heat/volt point to cool it down.)

[Edit] The screen won't usually affect the heat of the computer itself as it is passively cooled by whatever airflow is circulating it (it isn't buried in the laptop's hardware.) So screen size would have no real affect on loudness/cooling. But the GPU would.

You could buy yourself a super cheap Core 2 build and it could in the end be loud. You need to look at the design and factor in cooling. Does the processor have good air flow, etc etc. Because even if you have a great processor like the Core 2 Duo if it is burried in the middle of the laptop with no real air flow the fan will be blowing consistently to keep it cool.
