Is America Stupid?

I was just wondering because of all these people that think that if you dont pump gas on may 15th that your going to hurt the oil companies. Even if you dont pump gas on may 15th your just going to pump gas on may 14th or 16th + what are the chances that your going to pump gas on may 15th in the first place.

I wanna hear what you guy/gals think about this.

I think that's not going to do anything. First of all, if X amount of people have to have Y amount of gasoline...then it's not going to make a difference if nobody buys on a single day. All those purchases wiill be made up in previous or following weeks and they will still make the same money for that quarter. Companies like the oil industry don't look at sales per day, they look at sales per quarter. The only thing they look at from day to day is their costs to produce and the things that effect those costs.

Secondly, if it did play an effect, do you think it would make prices go down? I personally think they'd go up to make up for the money they lost. Doesn't matter though because your still buying the same amount of gas.....just on a different day.

I'm gonna purposefully run my tank all the way to empty the 14th, just I can fill it all the way up...and top it off that extra little bit on the 15th.

bring a gas can too for the lawnmower! LOL! Bunch of idiots out there. gas is going to be bought...not to mention if that one day did hurt the companies they would just raise the price another couple cents to make up for that.

When I was younger I thought there was only a few stupid ones mixed in. The older I get, I realize there is only a few of us smart people mixed in.

I think Tommy Lee Jones said it best in the first MIB movie...

"A person is smart.....People are dumb, stupid, and panicky"

This could be applied to the majority of America unfortunately.....

Heh... if I waited to fill up...well...

the smallest gas tank in a vehicle I own is in a Lincoln Town Car...

Isuzu - 22gal
Town Car - 20gal
soon-to-be-Brougham - 25gal

The only way to do it is to boycott one company. Don't buy their gas. Keep not buying their gas, even if their price falls a little. Eventually, they will have to drop their gas prices by a LOT. Competitors will be forced to follow. If they raise it again, boycott the same company again.

You would have to boycott that company for a LONGGGGG time to even create a dent. And they'd know what's up. And if you don't think the other companies would rally to their aid, think again...

The simple answer to your question is YES we are. In relation to other countries and cultures we are light-years behind in a lot of ways. Technology being one of them.

The UK has been doing stuff for years that we're just thinking about now.

Oh and they don't have a oil shortage either. The long and short of it is WE DON'T NEED FOREIGHN OIL. They just like us top believe we do. And they use that thought process as a leverage tool to alter prices whenever they want to.
