General Motors has just released a slew of information regarding the 2008 Corvette, and while a cursory glance at the photo above might not indicate much has changed, it would appear that much has changed beneath the skin.
For starters, in the engine room, a new 6.2-liter LS3 V-8 has taken up residence, offering 430 horsepower and 424 pound-feet of torque in standard trim. An optional ?two-mode? exhaust system corrals an extra six horsepower (436) as well as another four pound-feet of torque.
So-equipped, the new Corvette is capable of 190 miles per hour. The 7.0-liter Z06 will continue to be offered, and in fact, the standard cars now benefit from much of the hi-po model?s technology.
It isn?t just the engine that?s been beefed up?Chevrolet engineers have reworked both the manual transmission (for improved shift effort), and the six-speed paddleshift automatic, which now spends less time between ratios.
Did we mention that GM endeavored to improve the car?s steering feel, as well as its interior?
Works for us.
