A base model Z28 with leather and most options could be had for 22,800 out the door (no 12 disc cd changer, no factory hurst and 16 inch wheels). I know that is what I paid for my 01. The next closest comparable equiped GT was 24,800, I looked at one it and that was as low as they would go. Pay $2000 more to go over a second slower in 1/4 mile and no T-tops, Ford sure can market a turd and sell V6 cars like hot cakes because they look good. Please note I am speaking of SOHC 4.6 cars only.
Not DOHC cars or 03/04 Cobras. The SHOC mod motors are weak in everything they put them in.
Back on topic...
BBC>SBF
Theres no replacement for displacement.

Comparing a BBC to a SBF is comparing apples to oranges. Why not just say the Chevy 502 is a superior motor than the Ford 289?
Now if you were to compare the 350 LS1 and 260hp SOHC 4.6, then yes, the LS1 is the better engine in almost all parts. Compare the Intech and the Northstar...the Intech's best. Compare Vortec 454 and PFI 460...probably the 454, but the 460's a damn good engine too.
454 TBI v. 351 Windsor w/ GT40 heads; comparing apples to oranges.

If you just want to brag to your friends and say "I have a big block" you could ge an F-350 with the 460, I'm sure the performance parts for the lightning would carry over too (suspension)
My neighbor used to have one of those early 90's 454's I dunno if it was an SS.... now that I think of it, I think it was, he had dual exhaust on it and it was loud, I rode in it a few times and I remember liking the engine, but that was it... I didn't care for how it looked and the interior was horrible. |

I have to compare a BBC to a SBF if I want to compare the two trucks...and it this case I~LUV~Caddys8792 the SS has the better drivetrain. Meaning the BBC>SBF.
Normally you wouldn't compare the two but when looking at a package deal you have to. |

To each his own, but I'll still take the Intech over the Northstar based on the Intech's modifiablity, wider usage, cheaper costs to own/maintain (you can take your Mark VIII to a Ford dealership and get the cheaper Cobra parts and cheaper Ford service instead of only being able to take your Cadillac to a Cadillac dealership for parts/service and it's not a 3 piece block design (more opportunities for oil leakage) and is probably more reliable all together. Oh, I was looking at how you were comparing the 454 to the SOHC 4.6, I totally overlooked the fact that the 351 is also a small block. My bad. |

Perfect example being when Ford supercharged the 4.6 for the 03-04 Cobra they didn't have to reduce the bore like Cadillac had to do for the STS-V and the XLR-V. Ford's 4.6 > N* |

Adds more cylinder wall thickness allowing for either high reliability, or more power with more reliability. The cylinder wall is less likely to crack, depending on the metal makeup of the liners, block material, and the design.
However I think Ford did go to an Iron block for the 4.6 S/C motor am I correct? |

Can you guys tell I dislike Ford just a little bit. |

I have a friend that has a '93 Lightning. He put a Paxton supercharger on it and blew out his 2nd gear within a short period of time (less than a month IIRC), he had to sell the supercharger to afford the repairs.
+1 for the Turbo 400/4L80E. |

| I have owned both and I still like the N*. I had alot less problems with the N* than the Intech. Modfiable if a huge plus the the intech though. | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
