Unbelievable...I do all my own stuff and have the Dealer do any transmisson services. Unless I have some one who can add fluid while I am running the car and getting the old crap out.
You should at least take the time to learn the basics. oil change and check, tranmisson fluid check, Diff Check, brake check and coolant change and check. I feel it should be a prereq for getting your license.
F-ing Jiffy Lube. I wouldn't let them oil my bike chain

If they can afford that car, they should be able to afford to take it to the dealership for an oil change! |

The jiffy-rape-in-your-rear-lube cross-threaded our oil pan bolt. Almost scrapped our whole engine $750 later we never took it back (not covered by warranty!!).
I hate that place. |

Wal-mart lube is what I blame on my spun bearings in my cadillac.
I drove it about twelve thousand miles after buying it with no problems whatsoever. I took it to walmart and six miles later, the first time I hit any kind of higher rpm at all, I spun a rod bearing. After towing it home, I checked the oil, just out of curiosity. It didn't read on the dipstick at all. I crawled underneath and it DID have a new oil filter on it. When I put oil in, it didn't drain or leak anywhere that I could see so I'm assuming they didn't fill it. Not a damned thing I could do either except for buy a used motor and put it in. |

they have to carry insurance for negligent situations like that
all you had to do was call them and make a fuss and it would of been replaced... |

All their lawyers, who all have a whole helluva lot more money than I do, have to say is that I somehow and for some reason drained some of the oil after I drove it away. Out of their hands. I should have double checked it myself before driving off of their parking lot or, even better, I should have done the job myself.
Wal-mart is well known for not giving in to lawsuits that make them look bad. I know, worthless comment without a citation or reference, but they once spent three times what the settlement of a lawsuit would have been just to get away with an innocent verdict. This was years ago...read it in some magazine and don't remember any details.
Anyways, there was absolutely no way I could prove they were negligent after I had taken the vehicle off of their lot, driven it a mile to work, and then 8 hours later ended up with a bad motor. Too many variables and possibilities that they could throw in and say it was my fault or that I did something wrong. Nothing for me to stand on and I got screwed. |

My catalytic converter is an example of that.
I just don't trust places like Jiffy-Lube or other quick lube joints. They don't hire mechanics that are certified, usually they hire high school age kids. And I don't trust somebody younger than me touching my car, especially if I don't know them personally.
With muffler or light duty places like Car-X or Midas, they'll usually have a trained professional do the job, but I don't believe they're trained in a specific brand (GM, Hyundai, MB, etc, etc) usually, they'll try to upsell any parts they think you might need, and usually have mediocre customer service. No thanks, I'd rather take my car to a dealership where all of the techs are certified in that specific brand; that's all they know, and they know it well.
But at many dealers (mine included) they won't be able to do most exhaust work, or do specialty items like cats or mufflers..they just don't have the bending tools and whatnot. For my catalytic converter, I took my car to a trusted shop that put my muffler on last year, they rely on old fashioned friendly service and they don't charge a lot. I'm happy with them and I'd gladly recommend anyone to them. | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
