I used to work at a shop 11 years ago like this (not Jiffy), it is now out of business, but I know I would never do anthing like this. I had never seen any of the guys I worked with do it either. But I wouldn't 100% trust them on everything either....
Only thing I wasn't happy about is a guy came in with what he said was an 84 Renault, and it was an 85. That year they changed oil filters from english to metric threads. They guy got 2 miles down the road and the filter fell off and lunched his engine. So, who's fault? His? The shops?
Personally, I think both are at fault. The owner ~should~ have known what kind of car he had. The shop ~should~ have verified it. The shop left him high and dry last I heard.
And people wonder why I do my own work..... |

You should notice the filter not fitting quite right. |

But I wasn't on it, I was doing top side then. So there was no way for me to verify. Heck, if it would have cross threaded up it wouldn't have fallen off.
And people wonder why I put my filters on by hand and snug with wrench anyway. Mine don't leak and won't fall off..... |

Even a simple oil change, I have just heard too many horror stories... but people are also stupid, when I got my car back, I would always make sure the oil cap was back on, dip stick in place, filter ok etc.... but they also use the impact to put the drain plugs on... grrr...
Something similar happened to a guy on the Isuzu site.... he brought his Trooper in for work, the shop reccomended that his front wheel bearings get regreased and new seals... he gets charged nearly $300 fo rthe work... but it was never done... Tho it all worked out in the end. http://forum.planetisuzoo.com/viewtopic.php?t=10651 |

I rarely need to go to a shop. But I don't mess with mounting/dismounting rims, my neighbor does his own. I did it in the Army, but don't car to mess with the risk of breaking my aluminum rims....
If the Isuzu Trooper is 4WD, you likely CAN'T regrease the wheel bearings! |

If the Isuzu Trooper is 4WD, you likely CAN'T regrease the wheel bearings! | It is, and they are.
Check out the post.... a week later he went to a local shop (specializes in Isuzu stuff) for the install of a front locker... thats when the bearings were found left alone....
and... in the event of owning a vehicle that certain work cannot be performed, you shoudln't tell the customer it should be done... then charge $300 for it. |

We always got stuck doing our own rubber.... I had a M931 tractor, so I had 18 of them to worry about.... My rig was the prime mover. I worked on AN/TPQ-36 and 37's, http://www.globalsecurity.org/milita.../an-tpq-37.htm. Quote:
