I need to learn some discipline when operating this vehicle. I was coming home from a gathering with friends this evening and decided to open her up a bit on the way home. I was heading westbound on the Southern State Parkway at about 1:30 AM. I glanced down at the speedo (read 97MPH) and I was about to shift into 5th when I looked in the rear view mirror at this car on my ass. Then the lights and siren came on -- oh crap. I pulled over. NYS Troopers flooded my car with lights. I rolled down my window and swinted from the Maglight in my face. I gave him my papers, he mention that I was really moving. He clocked me on the upswing of 80 and couldn't believe I was still pulling away. I told him I didn't think I was moving that much over the speed limit. He said when he hit me with the lights, he thought we were going to break 100. Then he asked if I liked my license. I said yes. Asked the general questions, where are you going, where are you coming from, were you drinking. THEN, he handed me back my papers and said take it easy.

I COULD NOT BELIEVE IT. I thought I would have atleast got a summons for80 or so. But I got nothing. Was it because I didn't admit to speeding (RONSV taught me that one) or was I just lucky.

I really gotta slow down. BUT I CAN'T. HELP ME SOMEONE!!

Wow - you are very lucky. I NEVER get away with a warning. I've already had 2 tickets in the V this year [It's only Feb]. 38 moving violations since '86 :)

Speaking of speeding and you live in Portland, how much leaway do the police allow on the freeways and say Interstate 84? It seems that most people are pretty close to the speed limit with the odd person speeding. I have not seen anyone pulled over, come to think of it I don't remember seeing police cars either, are they hiding? Or just waiting for their best customer...YOU?

If I had left home work 5 minutes earlier yesterday morning, I wouldv'e been nailed at 110mph. There's a road that goes south around the Huntsville airport where I work with a nice long curve with very little traffic. One of the city's finest had someone pulled over. Lucky it wasn't me but I need to slow down or take the other road with more traffic.

So, you never exceed the speed limit? You are part of a very small minority amongst performance car enthusiasts. I'm not advocating doing double the limit on the public roads, but most of us go 5-10 over.

Very low tolerance for speeding here. The last 2 I got were for 70 in a 60 and 71 in a 60. I was not blazing past everyone, either...

had you said "speeding is a crime" that is one thing.
you actually insulted the OP and earned the warning.

I just read some of the most absurd threads on this forum from people that condemn others for doing odd things to their car....I've been and still am a well respected member of many forums - hell I even run my own www.americaoutloud.org I understand the purpose of censorship - but I don't think my comments were too far off

Every other post is about burnouts, drifting through parking lots, street racing kills... I would think this justifies my first comment.

The second shows my hatred for speeding on city streets in general. By speeding I mean upwards of 90MPH or 25 over.

Oh well its been fun.....

The word ticket has such a negative connotation, we should change it to the speeding tax. And the LEO's are nothing more than tax collectors. If you speed just be prepared to pay the tax when/if you get "audited".

But I'm going back to the farm roads for speed runs where it's safe.

I rarely go more than 10-15mph over, I just get to that speed really quick. My Escort has saved my ass more than a few times though.

D, I've been stopped twice by HPD and twice by Alabama Troopers. I managed to talk my way out of 3 tickets but one trooper was unmarked and paced me in a Camaro on 565. Watch out for em.

Hey Jesse!!!

Actually, you were just lucky. Those troopers on SS or the Belt Pkwy usually don't let you get away with anything. I've been pulled over, well over 100 times but not in the V yet even though I cruise the roads around 90-100. Actually the person who said you can't out run radios. Well it all depends. Obviously, someone would have to be an idiot to try it in the daytime but at night. Well, that's a different story especially if they're parked before they start to chase you. I've done it 4 times and got caught once doing 155 mph. He was quite pissed but I believe I made his year with a car chase and all since he only gave me a ticket for doing 95 in a 55 and let me drive off. He should of threw the book at me, impounded the car and thrown me in jail but he didn't. The only reason I did stop was because of a 6 car road block.

i think doing 65mph or 70mph is for losers, any speed limit that i have every seen is stupid! whats wrong with doing 80 mph? is it to fast? but i must say i love the losers that do 65 or 70 in the left lane and i and everyone else pasts them in the right line. but since when did the left lane become the lane for loser? i believe there should not even be a speed limit!

In France the #1 lane is kept open for passing.

Not a law, but a "rule of the road".

If people could just drive that way here:rolleyes:

Their traffic circles make sense, but can get pretty intense!

Yep - in many states it's a law that 'slower traffic keep right' and/or 'left lane for passing only'. In Oregon and Washington they have signs that say just that. Even so, we have a bad problem with left-lane bandits :thepan:
