Does any one know where or maybe have a torque plate that I could buy for an N*? I know some think it is not necessary, but I just have to have one. The block is a 2004.

:highfive: dkoz hit the magic nail....."well equipped machine shop". Break out your VISA card and go shopping. It (torque plate) had better be pretty thick and substantial...after all, you're trying to simulate the pull of cylinder head bolt torque as you bore/hone.
Can you explain why you are honing the block? We have seen the cross hatch remain on the cylinders after many many miles, this is the first time I have heard a NS being honed.. Do you have a damaged cylinder?
OMG....I hope he's not going to "bore and stroke" it !!! N*'s have a quench clearance about as thick as a sheet of toilet paper. Valve to piston clearance is zippo, also.......
The tight quench clearance is the reason behind the infamous Northstar "carbon rap". When the clearance goes negative from the buildup of carbon the result is the noise.
The carbon is soft enough that as it builds gradually it crushes and makes clearance for itself. What does happen is that when the engine is stopped it cools off and the clearance goes negative. Crank the engine up cold and now the piston whams the head, making a lot of noise until the carbon breaks up or the engine warms.
A side note is that as an alloy engine warms the power output drops because the engine expands and compression ratio drops. The L-88 cast iron 427 Chevy was dimensionally the same engine as the alloy ZL-1 but put out more power because it didn't expand like the alloy engine even though it was a hell of a lot heavier.
No not stroking it, and has 93mm bore. It's going in a road race track car (C4 corvette) 12:1 compression CP Pistons with 1mm, 1.2mm and 2.8mm low tension rings eagle rods stock crank 2003 ported 2003 block 2005 heads with modified oil passages, VVT removed custom intake and electronic fuel system Kiesler TK0-600 tranny Alan Johnson Flywheel, bell housing and clutch
The ring pack is why I need to hone it right.
Pistons will be .007 in the hole, head gasket is .040, should be good for 8500rpm+. This includes rod stretch, and all other clearances. Its not a street car, tear downs will happen often.
I would love to hear this engine run, post links to videos or mp3s if you can... when you run it... I assem the block is time-serted for tear downs? Please post your tear down experience with the time-serts... Thanks
This guy has a thread in this forum that last over 2 and 1/2 years describing his N* build for his Fiero. This is the best source of information about N* performance builds that I have seen on the net!
In any event, Summit or Jeg's should have torque plates. Whether or not you can get them with a Northstar head bolt pattern, I don't know.
