If driving in slow traffic car will gradually overheat. when speed increases temp goes back to normal. No codes unless it gets high enough to generate an overheating code. coolant is at proper level. do not have to add coolant anytime. Help please

make sure your cooling fans are working, check your fuses . the fuses should be under the hood. make sure the engine is heated up first, they wont turn on until the engine is warm

the reason it cools down when youre moving is air is flowing thru the radiator from the movement of the car.

Sounds like you have a part failing or its time for a coolant flush, especially since its at the right level. Mabye the thermostat

Check the water pump belt tensioner.

took car to cadillac dealer yesterday. said head gasket bad 3700.00 to fix. don't understand when it says it is overheating the cross over radiator hose is cool. you can put your hand on it. both fans are running and the air coming out of the radiator is cool.

Thermostat. Not That Hard To Change. Replace That Before Your Head Gasket Does Go.

Also check the purge line. If it is plugged, it will overheat.

Ranger where is the purge line

It is the 3/8" line that runs from the water pump housing to the top side of the surge tank. Just disconnect it from the surge tank and if it coolant flows, quickly plug it back on and tighten the clamp. If not, locate and clear the obstruction.

when i disconnected the line air and coolant came out. not a steady stream of coolant.

It's clear then. If you raised the RPM, the flow would have increased.

head gasket was bad. had two dealers ck.

WOW! Bad head gaskets on an '02 :eek: So much for longer head bolts. How many miles on it?

109 thousand. dex cool and tabs were used. changed coolant at 97 thousand.
