the other day I was looking at the engine compartment in 07, and extra battery tray kind of caught my eye.so I thought this: I know GM makes lots of damb things, but has to be a reason for this.of course I talked to technitians, but it's like talkind to a wall. we don't know/never heard of it/ you crazy/leave us alone/etc
what I found out is there is a wiring kit available from GM to add second battery. which is really cool. and You can isolate that battery as well from other vehicle components.
this is great when you adding amplifier/all kinds of traveling-camping equipment/or if Your main battery goes dead, you can jump start with aux battery/etc.
I'm still trying to find more info, and I'll keep you guys posted

That is a cool option. The possibilities are endless with what you could use that for. Wish that was in mine.

I was told by a GM engineer that this was in preparation of the Hybrid version. Maybe I heard/understood wrong, but either way, you found a good use for it!

Yep i was also informed it was for the hybrid, as far as escalade being a diesil do you think that would be too loud for cadillac.

It the same platform as the new trucks, and the dual battery setup is an option on several of the pickups. :)

hcvone-

I understand the point of having multiple batteries if your escalade is tricked out with a lot of customizations. I am pretty sure yours is all stock, so I am just wondering what is the advantage for you too have two batteries?

Not to be mean, but if you're going to call someone "dumb", you should take care to use proper english. It is "they're dumb" not "there dumb".

I tow a large enclosed snowmobile trailer from time to time, it nice to leave the running lights on the trailer, or the interior lights on in the trailer and not have to worry if my truck will start.

I have this 2nd battery option in my 07' Yukon XL which is basically the same truck. It's great! I love having the extra power in case anything goes wrong. Most dealerships don't know anything about it though or how to wire it.

I've had this request on other forums as well. There's nothing to take a picture of. Just imagine another battery in the empty tray, and everything else is already pre-wired in the truck. There's really nothing that pictures can show. When you look under the hood you just see 2 batteries, the 2nd one being on the drivers side. I have a parts list up on another forum. I'll try to post it here shortly.

Here it is:

Here are the part numbers I have for the 2nd battery install:

014005061 Retainer $2.09
011509853 Screw $0.58
0CABLEKIT Batt Cable Kit-1042 $150.00
089022168 486 YR Battery $72.89

Those are just how they were written on the invoice. Obviously prices are going to vary, but that should get you on the right track.

It would be helpful to see where the positive and negitive cables go to, we know where the 2nd battery goes. :)

gm_geek,

Sorry to bust in on an unrelated thread, but there's a question which I thought you might be able to help.

Please take a look at the thread titled "2nd row bench to Bucket seats".

There's a query for you there if you don't mind.

Thanks,

Dave

Ant word on the 2nd battery install ???

hcvone
04-30-07, 07:29 AM
I installed mine a few weeks ago and forgot to post :( Everything seems fine, the new positive battery cable goes from the top of the new battery (of course) to the starter, it runs under the engine and comes with "tabs" that snap into places along the frame

Did you see a change in any thing after the install ??? I Installed a 14volt dry cell called the cap killer about a foot away from my amp and also a full size one under the hood in the stock spot, My truck seems to run a little stronger and my mpg went up .3 mpg :cookoo: Am I crazy ????:banghead:

I don't know if you are crazy, I have not seen an mileage increase, but did not think I would. Everything works fine, might crank faster.

You can not see anything really, the battery sits on the tray, the negitive wire attaches to the alternator bracket, the postive goes under the front of the engine (there is a bracket there that the postive cable "clip" snap into) and it bolts on the the starter solenoid (where the stock cable bolts on) I will take and post some pixs next time I put it on the lift.

Two are the same AC Delco part numbers, once I bring my other 07' back from Montana I am switching to red tops, I just got 4 of them, 2 for each. :)
