I'm presently bidding on a 1989 Allante. I own a 1992 Eldo; can you folks tell me if the Allante's convertable top is hydraulic or muscle driven?

Thanks, ccmarvin (AKA: Newest Guy on The Block)

Welcome CC!

I am not sure if it is mechanical or power, however check out our ALLANTE section there are many there who are serious about this model. Good luck on your bidding! I have redirected your question to where the experts are!

Softop is manual. On the '89 it has a power rear latch and pull-down.

90-92 also have power front pull-downs.

However, in all cases, the actual folding/unfolding is manual.

The downside is you have to get off your duff to put the top up/down.

The upside, beyond less mechanical things to break, is that the top, when folded, takes up remarkably little room, which is why the Allante can hold two people and a load of groceries, and still have the full trunk empty. You can carry an amazing amount of luggage in an Allante, especially for two people.

With practice, the top can be put up/taken down very quickly compared to a power top too. Of course, you have to be careful about getting caught in a sudden downpour, since you have to stop and get out to put up the top.

Once you get the hang of it, you can zip the top up and down in no time.

What did the 93 have? I'm thinking of buying one, they have a pretty nice one at a dealership near here. I'm not going to complain if it's manual, but being lazy is always fun.

All the Allantes (1987 thru 1993) have a manual top.
