155 mph about 10 times because my traction control comes on and reads traction engaged! It is a little scary but it really does nothing just slows down a tiny bit and I never tried to 'hit' it after that. I believe it comes on because of the slightly lower tire in the back, 275/40, and it believes that it is spinning too fast! I've done this everytime running someone on the highway, with clear sailing ahead of course, and lucky for me no one has wanted to push it past that because I will never let off! :D

And yes, I am a little nutz!

How fast do you think a maggied V will go with StealthV's tune removing the limiter?? And no, I won't try it cuz I'm too scared to go that fast.

Not as fast as a head and cam car with the rev limiter set at 7000 or something. I have heard that LS6 is not to safe much past 6800. They've blown up I've heard. Anyway, others know more about that!

At any rate, the point is that it will only go as fast as the gears and rpm's will let it! You'll just get there faster! Which is the best! :yup:

"04' CTS-V" 145mph on the way home from Captree in LONG ISLAND (car show). I was going for the limit but road came into a community. 180 MPH in my brother "07' zo6 blue." Speed is alway good but crashs are'it worth it.

The V does NOT have a limiter. It is redline limited to 161 in 5th gear. 6th gear is wayyy too tall to get any acceleration unless you have mega power. Maybe having a maggie or serious heads and cam can accelerate in 6th gear.

But added power will not get you to go any faster in 5th. You need to adjust the redline. If you go over 6800rpm, you need to beef the valve springs. I believe if you increase the revs to 7000, you can get to the low 170s.

And for the record, my V redlines in 5th at 161. I've hit it twice.

I thought 163 was the magic number for us?

There is a speed limiter coded into the tune. However, Big Jim is correct that 5th gear and RPM cutoff may shut you down before you get there, wind resistance etc.

So a car with a maggie wont get you more top speed in 6th gear.

I've hit 160 near the top of 5th. I have blurry vid of it myspace, can barely make out the digital numbers but can see the needle moving.

The best part is that I said ALL this stuff mentioned in the past 6 posts in the first post on the first page! SHEESH! :thepan:

One more thing, I went 188mph in my buddies C6 ZO6. Where we did it...was a little scary! Don't think I'll try that again! The good thing was there was no one else around, of course, so we only jeopardized our own lives!

I did 155 mph a couple weeks ago (while totally blowing the doors off a fart-can GSR), the steering felt really touchy and it was like there was wind-resistance steer. Not much but I could feel it through the steering wheel. I didn't want to push it and after hitting 155 I backed down.

At that speed it flet like I had about another 10mph before redlining it...spinning in the lower to mid 6k range. I'm thinking about a tune to raise redline and beefing up the springs and the top of the motor but really what's the point...it's not like we go those speeds for sustained amounts of time. To me it's the 0-60, 0-100, and 0-120/150 that makes the difference.

Speaking of which...does anyone make a 3.90 gear set? Sorry to thread jack but let's spice it up a little...3.90 gears would be a good thing I think...thoughts? Actually would kill the top speed but give you killer off the line reaction times...I'd say with 3.90s you'd hit about 140-something at redline...

ctsvflorida

IMO, 3.90's wouldn't help too much from 3.73's and it wouldn't hurt much of the top speed either. Someone here will know how to calculate that! I am a pretty good math guy and I come up with 156mph would be your top speed with 3.90's. Not a bad difference but I do not think the 0-60, 0-100 etc. would be worth the cost of a gear change. I could be wrong though!

On the top speed thing. I'll tell ya that I think our cars are incredible at high speeds! Maybe the wind was strong that day for you but anything will react to wind at 150mph and the V sure doesn't look like an aerodynamic machine! LOL! Although, 150 MPH does not feel like it is going that fast at all! I think the feel is actually comparable to the new ZO6 at 150mph. It's just so different because of the height you're at that it's tough to compare.

I'm thinking 3.90s will effect the 1-2 shift points too and at what mph you are at during that shift. Gears 2 and 3 would be more 'robust' in the acceleration department, I would think. I bet you could improve on 0-60 times as much as .4 seconds or so. Get us closer to that 4 sec number. Maybe I'm using fuzzy math...:suspect: How much would a set of 3.90s run and who makes them is the better question?

Don't get me wrong, at 150 its a solid car, probably the best I've ever driven. I wouldn't go as far as saying that it feels like a Z06. Some bigger sway bars coudl help. I know it wasn't windy but my wheels might not have been balanaced correctly effecting the feel of the road through my steering wheel. I attribute that slight steering issue to wheel balance now that I think about it...

It would be a good check to use the GPS to check your speedometer. I know at 84MPH. I'm actually going 86. There have been a few other threads about the speedo error. So, by my calc at 150MPH on the speedo, you might be closer to 155? Just something to check.

Alb, I'll have to try that...I've got the nice little stretch of straight highway between Seattle and Tukwila/Renton (518 or 517 I think) that I use for high speed testing. I'm very curious know what GPS says now...

That sounds about right with a raised limiter! How high is it? I think mine is actually set for 6600rpm's but the traction engaged thing holds me back from 160 runs.
