is the "solar" coating on the exterior, or embedded inside of the glass?

i'm interested in buffing out the micro-scratches that come with age, but the solar glass might require a complete replacment instead.

All modern windshields actually consists of 2 pieces of glass laminated together with the tint film between the 2 layers.

So yes it is safe to polish.

nope. i do metal polishing, though, and i saw a kit @ eastwood for windshield polishing i was going to DIY with.
