"When you feel the transmission shift on this vehicle you would think it was a brand new" EcSTSatic 02-04-07, 11:28 AM People think that just because they sip gas they can ask outrageous prices for them these days. With close to 100K miles, those cars are pretty worn out IMO. Wiseguy2 02-04-07, 11:43 PM Here ya go:

That's funny, my Mom had one too. I thought her's was junk, or was that the Vega...:hmm: gothicaleigh 02-05-07, 07:13 AM I would love to own a well maintained Chevette. One of the classic small cars in my opinion. :D gothicaleigh 02-05-07, 07:17 AM Maybe a Fairmont???

One of my first cars was a black with red interior 2 door '82 Fairmont Futura. It was easily the weakest car I have ever driven, but I loved the cut of the window behind the massive B-pillars. It was supposed to be a sport coupe (many people even use it for a drag chassis), but mine was a dog.
It looked kind of like this one:

Chevette (affectionately referred
to as the Shitvette); and, the
identical Pontiac Acadian.
Fun little cars, economical
and NOT Freakin' Japanese:thumbsup: :thehand:

Wrong on the last account :).
Anyway, yeah, something about the Chevette appeals to me... I'd like to find a well maintained one cheap in the future, though it wouldn't really have a use.
My mom had them for years, the red '83 and white '85. Both 1.6L both autos, no AC. They got great gas mileage for the decade, really cheap to run.... it would fish tail like crazy though, there would be a couple of sand bags in the back for the winter.
I guess my mom was cool like that... rockin' the not so great in the snow RWD cars... the only FWD car she has driven was my Olds on occasion when hers was in the shop.... but she went from a ~'74 Ford LTD to the '83 Chevette to the '85 Chevette to a '85 AMC Eagle (in which the 4wd never worked) to the '84 Sedan DeVille to the '89 Brougham..... and shes managed all those NY winters without ever wrecking the car.
The "Scooter" model in the 2ns link was really stripped down.... it didn't even have a glove box! I thin kit was the Rally model? I dunno... one of them that was the highest trim that had a couple extras. Night Wolf 02-05-07, 09:43 PM 1st gen Isuzu I-Mark (USA) AKA Gemini (Japan):

The I-Mark was the base for the later Spectrum right? Night Wolf 02-05-07, 10:02 PM Waait a sec. Thought it was based on the Opel Kadett? The I-Mark was the base for the later Spectrum right?
The Kadett, IIRC was also a spin off of the I-Mark.
The I-Mark, which became the Gemini... was moved to FWD platform in.... 1986? That went on until 1993 or 1994... when Isuzu, once again, made only trucks.
Spectrum, I thought was a Corolla? Either way, it was one of the FWD versions.
The Isuzu Impulse was rebadged as a GEO Storm. The 1st gen Impulse was actually RWD, with a turbo 2.0L (same rear diff as my truck) later the Impulse moved to the FWD/AWD platforum shared with Lotus... form what I've heard 2nd gen Impulse RS (turbo, AWD, handling by loutus) are pretty mean cars...
1978 Kadett:

The 1st gen I-mark was also rebadged as a Holden Gemini....
http://www.holdengemini.net/images/feature/holden/cam/cam_hol_tg01.jpg DaveSmed 02-05-07, 10:07 PM Ok, that clears it up somewhat. The Spectrum is still Isuzu, same car, just the new gen I-Mark. They just didnt call it a Chevette. The Corolla one was the Prizm. And the Suzuki stuff was Chevy Sprint/Geo Metro. There was a turbo sprint that packed boost into that beast of a three cyl. Interesting. (I'm actually pretty familiar with the Suzuki/CAMI side of Geo) Night Wolf 02-05-07, 11:08 PM Ah yes.
So the 1.6L in the Chevette was an Isuzu engine too, then? I was never able to figure that out... lack of pics too.
The 1st and 2nd gen I-mark really have nothing in common....
This would be the gen II I-Mark, AKA Gemini

Anyway, speaking of cool Isuzu's.... today at KFC I saw a new Isuzu NQR.... typical Isuzu cab-over box truck.... but i never heard of the NQR before.... what caught my attention was the "5.2L DIESEL" badge on the door.... that thing must move! it was a small box too, not a big truck.... they are very cool trucks... they have the short race car shifter :). xxpinballxx 02-06-07, 12:25 PM I think I'd rather have a citation...little more room.... Maybe a Fairmont???

That Fairmont was in pretty good shape. Might be a bit pricey, but it looks nice. I worked at a Ford dealer in New Car Get Ready when these came out--they were very, very popular. Geesh, we use to have those things sideways in the back lot when equipped with the 302 V8! They could really burn rubber.
