View Full Version : WW shock spacers needed Flyin-Ryan 02-01-07, 07:30 AM I just got word that WW isnt making his spacers that allow us CTS guys to switch to FE4s.
1st I'll ask even though I know the answer. Does anyone have any to sell me?
ok I tried...
Now does anyone know what I should do? I already bought the shocks :(
To make things worse I cant drive up the hill that leaves my house to get to work. RobertCTS 02-01-07, 08:10 AM I take it you went from the base struts to the FE4s? They are just washers. PM WildWheel and Odysseus. Both know what you need. You already have them installed? Why can't you drive up a hill? odysseus 02-01-07, 09:05 AM From the FAQ:
Spacer Dimensions for a ~1" drop:
Top Pillow mount inner sleeve spacers: 1" OD, 5/8" ID, 1/2" tall (total height)
Lower rubber washer: 1.75" OD, 5/8" ID, 0.2" tall
Upper spacers: 1.75" OD, 5/8" ID, 7/8" tall (total height)
You can just make them out of almost anything (fender washers, etc). WildWhl cut them out of layers of delrin.
The main spacer can even be made by cutting down the existing FE4 rubber spacer before you mount it on top of the shock. That makes the mod irreversible for the shocks, obviously. You may get by leaving it the same size and simply moving it from under the mount to the top. There should be plenty of thread left, since you're not changing the total height. They may 'bang', if you don't put some kind of thin rubber spacer where you remove the large one, though, since it will then be metal on metal. Yeah I bought the FE4s...not installed
I cant get up the hill because there is ice all over it. Flyin-Ryan 02-01-07, 01:29 PM From the FAQ:

Could i use the parts off my old shocks to get it to work? odysseus 02-01-07, 02:00 PM Not likely, as the spacer on the old shocks are internal to the tube.
It's no big deal. You can buy a set of polyurethane shock bushings and cut them to length from any auto parts store for about $5.

Actually, Part number 9.6110 would be just perfect:
http://www.energysuspension.com/pages/sk_bsp1.html Flyin-Ryan 02-01-07, 02:07 PM Do I just need a set of 2? Or do I need to per shock? I feel like such an idiot about this issue. Im sorry and thank you for your patenice odysseus 02-01-07, 02:24 PM One per shock will do. They come in a set of two, so you're set for about $5. If you prefer eBay (Fedex delivery) over your local autoparts store:

Or here's an even better deal $3.34/pr with free shipping (they throw in $5.50 handling though)! They take Paypal, too (I just ordered a set to try out).

You'll need to trim about 1/4" from the length. Flyin-Ryan 02-01-07, 04:20 PM One per shock will do. They come in a set of two, so you're set for about $5. If you prefer eBay (Fedex delivery) over your local autoparts store:

Ok so there would be no modification needed to the ebay link bushing/bumpstop?
But the 2nd link (the one you bought), is just as good but would require to shave off 1/4"?
If money didnt matter would you just get the set from ebay? dkozloski 02-01-07, 06:17 PM Go to some place that changes a lot of shocks. They'll have a bucket or barrel of removed bushings for you to sort through and find something you like. odysseus 02-01-07, 07:32 PM Any bushing will do, but you'll have to trim it to make it fit the correct size of
~1.75" OD, 5/8" ID, 7/8" to 1" tall. I ordered the last one from autotruckpart this afternoon to try out, since it's close to the proper OD, has the proper ID, and can be trimmed to 1" tall. The excess can be used for the lower washer for the rebound bumper (~1.75"OD x 5/8" ID x 1/8" thick).
Read the directions on the FAQ, and take apart one of the FE4's while looking at the pictures. You'll have a much better idea of what needs to be done. It's really very simple. In reality, the spacer will come out looking much more like the one that Ground Control offers in their kit (writeup is also in the suspension section of CadillacFAQ.com). I bought the ones from ebay just now. I guess I'll understand it better in person when I get the shocks and bumpstops. I wish the FAQ had arrows pointing to the parts it is talking about. odysseus 02-02-07, 12:34 PM Here's the Ground Control version, if that helps:

Flyin-Ryan 02-02-07, 03:29 PM So really all I will need now is the spacer that is the GC spacer and the GC washer. That should b easy to find. As long as the energy suspension bump stop fits good | |
