Hi everyone, i just got my new car 1998 catera. Im upgrading the the BOSE system and replacing it with 4 Kicker 3 way 5 1/2 a kicker 12" L7 and a JVC HU. I got all the stuff ready to go in i just need to know how to remove the old speakers and amp. I already got the stock BOSE HU out and ready to get the new one in. I need to know how to remove the 4 door speakers and the rears. Also what about the amp, can i still use it with 4 Ohm kickers? If so can i use all the existing wires? I was thinking that the BOSE HU does not put out power, but level outputs to the amp in the trunk, then that amplifies them to the 6 speakers? Does anyone know how the audio is wire in a 98 Catera? Thanks!

The upgrade route we follow in the uk is to amp the standard door speakers (4 way amp with approx 30W RMS per channel) and filter out the sub base (below 120ish Hz) and then place a seperate sub and amp in the boot to fill in.

There is absolutley no point in putting big speakers in the doors as they just rattle and sound tinny...plus the factory fit ones are pretty reasonable quality

But that does not make sence, the factor speakers are 1 Ohm, so they need to be replaced, also im only putting one speaker in each door, like there already is

I have some 6.5" CDT components in my front doors (it's all about the front stage for me).
They receive 85W RMS a piece and there's no rattles what so ever.
Several layers of sound absorbing material (dynamat) works like a charm and helps to bring out a nice rich front stage.
In the rear I have 2 10's in sealed enclosures, I like the quick response of the 10's. Soon I will be making a fiberglass enclosure for a single 15" to sit where the spare wheel goes to regain some trunk space.

If you want good sound than get some good wires and leave all the stock stuff in the trash. If you plans are to run some serious power with multiple amps than look into upgrading the "Big 3" (search on car audio sites) and pay close attention to good grounds.
