I have 2 1998 SLSs, and really do not understand this function. The manual says put the stalk in intermittant and the sensor does the rest. SO do you put it on the fast wipe or slow wipe intermittant part of the rheostat. When I put it anywhere between those 2 extremes the the sensor has the wipers running irradically. Does anyone understand this system?

There is band which says INT ADJ attached to the level. You can move it up and down up to your desire and the bottom line is the lowest sensitivity which collects more water on the windshield. Upper position is the least .

:yup: The sensor function does, in fact, cause the wipers to operate erratically, based on the amount of moisture on the windshield in the vicinity of the infrared sensor just in front of the rearview mirror. If the windshield is WET, then you get pretty steady operation. Somewhere less, a wipe here and there with two or three thrown in for good measure. (The intermittent speed function seems to control the sensitivity somewhat.) Toward dry, very few wipes. BUT, flip the stalk to OFF if you're a car wash user. If not, instant destruction as the foam fingers rip off your wiper arms. Mist, off, rainsense, slow, fast.

This has been discussed a thousand times. The adjuster adjusts the sensitivity of the sensor. If you turn it up towards the ON position, anything on the window will set it off. I run mine about 3 ticks up from off.

Those of you who find erratic behavior, your system has a problem. There are 100 people on this board, including myself, who love the feature and think it works flawlessly.
