View Full Version : Barbaro dies They had to put him down this morning after a series of setbacks. Two months ago it looked like he was out of the woods.
I used to love horse racing, but I can't watch it live anymore, I started waiting for the tape delay. Now I think I'm done with the "sport of kings" forever. This is just senseless cruelty. A waste of a beautiful animal with a huge heart.

hopefully this will stick in other owners minds who decide "hey lets try to save him with 50 operations spread out over months instead of putting him down immediately".....there is a reason they euthanize them right there on the track. caddydaddy 01-29-07, 02:10 PM Fire up the grill! malcolm 01-29-07, 02:13 PM I wonder if they rubbed a batch out of him before they poped him. You people are sick.
Back on topic, I've seen the video of when he breaks that leg. They tried to load him in the gate once and he broke out. He was obviously stressed and something was bothering him.
So they RE-loaded him, and the first thing he did after he got out to run was slam that leg down and break it.
He should've been scratched from the race after the first failure. But all the other horses were loaded and waiting, and of course the REAL consideration was how much money had already been bet. RightTurn 01-29-07, 02:33 PM You people are sick.
:yeah: Beautiful animal. dkozloski 01-29-07, 02:52 PM He was just like a lot of other juiced up athletes on steroids that managed to overpower their skeletal systems. There have been some truly horrific injuries of finely trained animals. It seems to me that they should have concentrated their efforts on some kind of prosthesis. malcolm 01-29-07, 03:21 PM http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c253/malcolmd/elmers.jpg :horse: RightTurn 01-29-07, 03:29 PM Harsh. But really funny. :D dkozloski 01-29-07, 03:47 PM A guy in India sawed his thumb off in a table saw. He didn't have the money to go to the emergency room so he stuck it back on with super glue. It stayed on and grew back. I've repaired many cuts and injuries on my hands and fingers with super glue. With a lot of small injuries it's almost like it didn't happen. A doctor told me he does it all the time himself. There is a commercial super glue specifically for this called DermaBond but he told me it was a waste of money. That aside, he was a great horse and kept just up the road from where I'm at. I too think the racing is awful, especially considering the treatment that goes on sometimes, not to mention the fact that most horses live much better lives doing lots of other things.
Just terrible, and even more so after he was getting so much better, only to take a sudden turn. Such a shame. malcolm 01-29-07, 06:39 PM Sure, I used to help a moyl with circumsions. A great job. Fifty skins a week and a chance to get ahead.

Super Glue rocks:thumbsup: I have super glue on both my thumbs right now!Bad cracks in the corners!!!!!!
Race horses are bred to be fragile but fast! Its not cruel at all,the live to race!Thats why you can't fix them when they break, you can't keep them from running around.
That horse was only saved because they wanted his genetics passed on,its business people!
It sucks when something like this gets played out in the media,I know people who need horses for their lively hood. These animals are here for us to use in what ever way we see fit.
Damn guys, people eat horse too. dkozloski 01-29-07, 07:12 PM Super Glue rocks:thumbsup: I have super glue on both my thumbs right now!Bad cracks in the corners!!!!!!

It's not to be found in the U.S. but horse meat is widely consumed by humans in Europe and Asia. A Kentucky Derby winner went in the stewpot in Japan. urbanski 01-29-07, 07:25 PM It's not to be found in the U.S. but horse meat is widely consumed by humans in Europe and Asia.
