Ugly.

I agree. BMW's styling direction does nothing for me.

Love it, but I've always enjoyed the styling, performance, and quality across the BMW line. More recent looks have turned a lot of people off, but I think they take the classic BMW character and just make it more modern and lively.

Can't fault the performance potential, either. But, in the end, different strokes for different folks.

I'm not overly excited about the stlying, but 420 horses out of a 4.0 liter motor...wow...nice.

Of course, however, that means it's a high-revving monster and has little low end torque, but that appeals to some people

Yup, redlines at 8200 rpm.

Well, it's got VANOS on it, so that'll help alot with the low-end.

The article says 4.9 sec 0-62, which is pretty much what BMW published for the E46 M3, I wonder if this model is way too heavy for it's torque production.
The published time would not give it much of an advantage, if at all, facing the Audi RS4, and even the current CTS-V.

^^^^^^
It's called milking the numbers ie., when people buy it and they get it tested out it's more like a 4.1 or something to 62 mph. Have you been paying attention to the 335i? BMW low balled the hp numbers on those and when people took delivery and hooked it up to a dyno they got a pleasant surprise

I ****ing love the E90 coupe, this car is amazing.

But the next gen CTS-V will do to the E90 M3 what we did to Dresden ~60 years ago.

True! I drove one of the 335's and that thing is a SCREAM. I was expecting some turbo lag, but it comes on strong and fast. I think they were getting something like 300 hp to the wheels... not just flywheel. Definately lowballed it.

Can you say FUGLY? Even the majority of forum member who responded to that guys post said it was ugly. They've got to stop ruining the styling of every new car they make, otherwise there's gonna be a lot more people driving Mercedes, and Audi's and what not....which will not be good for BMW.

Agreed. Bangle is a complete styling nut. I think the new BMW design looks like a bloated shark! However, this new M3 will be underrated and over-engineered. Let's just hope Chad is right! The '08 CTS was sure a pleasant surprise, perhaps the V will be even moreso!

I disagree, I think the E90 Coupe is one of the few that Bangle didn't completely over do, like he did the '04 5 Series...that's an ugly car!

Ugly. But that's to be expected. I really don't like the rear license plate mount at all, I think it makes the rear of the car look like crap.

But then again, aside from the new 3 Series coupe, I don't like the looks of any of the new BMWs... even with the facelift the new 7 is still a nasty looking car, and don't get me going on iAnnoy, I mean iDrive.

I also am surprised that the 0-60 time is only 4.9 seconds, the car should be quicker than that, and unlike Porsche, BMW is usually somewhat accurate on their performance figures. Of course, that assumes that the figures posted came from BMW. But then again, M3s aren't about 0-60 and 1/4 mile times really. I'm much more concerned that the car is going to be heavier and more bloated. An E30 M3 (86-91) is still arguably the best handling, and certainly the most entertaining of them all. It's kind of like the new M5. I finally got some serious seat time in a new 6-speed M5.. and I'm going to pass on the car for a number of reasons. It's just not as much fun as my old 88 M5. And, for the money, I can think of cars that are just a lot more fun if purchased secondhand.

It's going to sell like hotcakes as usual, a local dealer that I know already has 5 orders with deposits for the car.

They can keep em.

Actually Dual-VANOS. Single-VANOS has been around since late '92, Dual-VANOS since the fall of '98.

For those who don't know, VANOS is BMW's Variable Valve timing system. Originally it just worked on the intake cam, now it works on both intake and exhaust. It does improve the low-end torque of their usually peaky motors. But then, I don't think there's ever been an M engine that produced strong low-end torque, but they aren't designed to... I track my M cars and the high-end power is right what you want on a track.

Fake and so old!Yeah because that magazine is for February of 2007 and my latest Auto Week also has a big story on the 2007 M3. But I guess soupero has the inside info that everybody else doesn't have:cookoo:

On that carmagazine website they say 3 pics are computer generated, so don't expect the production car to be exactly the same looking.
