This is my second one. My mom sold mine at a consignment shop years ago and I just bought a fully functioning one off ebay. The first generation Genesis like I used to have. Old skool Sonic is the shit!!!

My stupid neighbors broke my Genesis. Jammed the controller ports somehow. Now I just have all my old Sega games on my computer as ROMs.

If fact I think I'll play some Sonic 3D blast now.

Sonic 2 is the only one I ever played, but it was a great game. I loved the casino level!

Only other Genesis games I really played a lot of were Virtua Racer (I was the GOD of the difficult track) and Jungle Strike, which I never did beat. That alone is probably going to be enough for me to go online and look for one to buy. Damnitt. I'm close to broke, but now I'm itching for a Genesis.

I had a Genesis with the Sega CD add-on (other than my CD Walkman it was my first real CD player). Sega CD has to be one of the most under-rated systems of all time. Some really good games for it's time. Never bought the 32x add-on, but one of my friends had a Genesis system that came with all three built in.

The Genesis era is one of the few times I preferred a console over the Nintendo of that generation.

The Sonic series was always good on Genesis.
The original Mortal Kombat (the first was good just because it pushed the boundaries of what games could be; Unfortunately it's been downhill since then).
My favorite Genesis games had to be the Shining Force series though. I loved those.

Sega is also rereleasing all of it's Genesis games on the Wii's virtual console.

So far we can play these Genesis games on the Wii (more are released every Monday):

Altered Beast
Sonic The Hedgehog
Ecco the Dolphin
Golden Axe
Columns
Ristar
Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine
Gunstar Heroes
Space Harrier II
ToeJam & Earl

Here are what's announced for the next release:

Bonanza Bros.
Comix Zone
Gain Ground
Bio-Hazard Battle
Streets of Rage

From the ones I've downloaded and from what I have heard from others, the Wii emulates the Genesis perfectly. All the nostalgia, but none of the slow-down that would bog down some of the originals when too much movement appeared on screen.

Goth- Do you download the game from the system? If so, how much do the games cost?

Sonic 2 is one of those classic games! Haha so many hours wasted infront of the TV after school before mother got home and yelled at me to quit wasting time.

I still have my Gensis downstairs, fully functional with a handful of games.
I have had it for probably 11 years? I still have all the original packaging too.
I forget what games I have.
I know I have Eternal Champions and Ecco the dolphin.
My wife only has one hand and she can totally kick my butt on that thing.
I can play games on a 104 keyboard but can't work a stupid game controller.
How lame is that?
:D

The Wii has built-in wireless. You download them straight into the flash memory of the system (it supports SD cards too). Just hook up a wireless router and you're in business.

Games are purchased on a points system so they can deal with worldwide currencies.

NES games start at 500 Wii Points, Super NES games start at 800 Wii Points and Nintendo 64 games start at 1,000 Wii Points. Sega Genesis games start at 800 Wii Points and TurboGrafx16 games start at 600 Wii Points. Wii Points can be purchased online or at retail at an MSRP of $20 for 2,000 points.

So the cheapest games are $5, while the most expensive games cost $10. Genesis games run about 8 bucks.

There was a version that had all three of them? Do you know the name of it? That would be awesome to add to my collection.

Only one I ever knew that had anything integrated was the Sega CD-X. That is by far the coolest version of the Genesis ever made but the 32X won't connect properly unless the CD-X is modified but I'm not gonna modify my rare baby.

The last version of the Sega Genesis I saw was the Genesis 3. It looked kinda of cute and I regret never buying it since it was like $50 bucks, probably sells for more now that its out of circulation.

I have a Sega Genesis with the CD hook up, where it stacks, and a Genesis 2 with the CD hook on the side and it has the 32X add-on too.

A great system. Sega should have poured more money into the the thing. They dropped the Sega CD/32X combo games to support the Saturn then dropped the Saturn prematurely in the states to push the Dreamcast. They rushed everything too much and it hurt them in the end.

I hated how the Genesis version of TMNT was different then the SNES version [which was a port of my favorite arcade version.]

Was it this one? Man, I'd have bought it if Sega released it. It looks like the Genesis 2 on steriods!

I wonder if the CD Model 2 would strap on to it.

Here is my baby:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sega_CDX

And note it does work as a portable CD-Player but the batteries won't last you very long. It was cool to own and show off when the Sega was still "da man."

Yes!

I have one of those sitting next to my Game Gear. The thing is a BEAST! It sucks your batteries dry in probably an hour or two and is probably a little bigger then the original Xbox controller. Still it did what it did and did it good. One of Sega's best underappreciated releases.

I loved how it could hook up to a TV and had a port for a second player. You tossed it into the carrying case it brought [wish the power adapter was as huge as the Genesis one] and take it to a friend's house and play. Course the CDX did all that, and better cuz it had a Sega-CD option, but none the less it was cool.

Damn Dopestar you're making me want to pull out the old consoles.

Huh. I never followed the Sega much. I just knew that I had a Genesis and everyone I know had a Super Nintendo. I always wanted the Nintendo and everyone I knew always wanted mine. Now I wish I still had it. :)

Yeah, it was narrow like that CD-X... maybe it was just that modified with the 32x on top... doesn't quite fit my memory right, but hey, who knows it was years ago. I'll ask my friend about it (maybe he still has it, whatever it was).

All I remember is being impressed at how small it was (my Genesis with Sega CD add on was huge in comparison) and that it played the then new 32x games.

An original Genesis plus Sega CD plus the 32x plus Sonic&Knuckles with Sonic 3 plugged in on top would be a monster. :D
Sega really liked it's add-ons.

I had the 32X, it sucked, never worked half the time, did absolutely nothing for my Genesis. I had/have the first gen one......

http://dl.qj.net/uploads/files_module/screenshots/8139_SegaGenesis.JPG

My cousin had the second one....
http://www.emuasylum.com/images/systems/Sega%20Genesis.jpg

We also have this crappy modern rendition....
http://encyclopedia.quickseek.com/images/Genesis3.jpg

I never had a Sega CD but I might pick one up. Ms. DS works near a killer Mom and Pop game shop that has a couple for sale. That place has everything the retro gamer could need, inclusing a fully functioning Atari system from the early 80's for like $70!

These are the games I found in my posession when I went through the box in my attic, they all work too....

- Sonic 1
- Sonic 2
- Sonic 3
- Sonic & Knuckles
- Sonic Spinball (My favorite!)
- Dungeons & Dragons
- Spider-Man vs. The Kingpin
- Batman Returns
- Terminator 2: Arcade Game
- Power Rangers (Great fighter game)
- Pacman 2: The New Adventures
- Toejam & Earl: Panic on Funkatron
- Earthworm Jim (Another favorite)
- Vectorman
- Ren & Stimpy: Stimpy's Invention (Classic!)
- Aladdin (Was a really fun game)
- Ninja Turtles: Tourniment Fighters (Another great fighter)
- Taz: Escape from Mars
- Desert Demolition: starring Wile E. Coyote & Roadrunner
- AAAHH! Real Monsters

The following are ones that I'm gonna sell to that game shop.....

- Animaniacs
- Jungle Book
- Sonic 3D Blast (Worst Sonic game I ever played)
- Tiny Toons: Buster's Hidden Treasure
- The Little Mermaid
- Sonic 1 (I have an extra)
- Barney's Hide & Seek (My brother's when he was like 3)
- Tom & Jerry
- Batman Forever
- Madden 93
- Hardball III
- Sports Talk Football 93

I got a lotta sports games from my one uncle as gifts. I guess he wanted me to be more athletic or something, I know he hates the way I look now......

Genesis was one of my favorite systems, right up there with all my PlayStations.....

HEY DS that's the third one I remember seeing!

I was talking with my mom and some how the Sega came up and it turns out we did buy a Genesis 3!

It was a gift to my cousin. So I'm trying to get a hold of said cousin and if she still has it IT IS MINE! Muahaha!

The NES can't die! It probably just needs resuscitation.
Blow in it!

Anyone else remember getting light headed from blowing in their NES and cartridges?
Good times. Good times. :D

I blew in it all I could, I even used compressed air. It looked a little corroded in there, I think it might have spent it's storage years in a basement or someplace where moisture may have gotten to it. It's pretty dead. I'm bidding on a replacement on ebay and I have three in watch. I'm gonna sell the broken one as non-working to see if I can get some money for it. That still leaves me with the extra PS3 I still have festering which I'd accept pretty much any offer for at this point.......

I've got quite a collection of game systems between Ms. DS and myself....

Original Nintendo
Original GameBoy
Super Nintendo
Genesis
Game Gear
PlayStation
Nintendo 64
PlayStation 2
GameCube
Nintendo DS
PSP
PlayStation 3 (Anyone want one?)
Wii

Hey DS if the NES powers up and it is giving you some kind of video feed, either a green or blue screen or just a garbled up image, chances are it just needs a new pin connector. YOu can find those on E-Bay super cheap and install it yourself.

I've replaced one on my girlfriend's Nintendo and good as new.

Oh and DON'T blow in your games after you've replaced the pin-connectors. As we all probably know now that we are older, when we blow with spit and years of that on the connectors is what erroded it and junked it up.

Haha but good times.

My gaming collection includes:

Atari 2600, 5200, Jaquar + CD, Lynx [second version]
Nintendo NES, Famicon, NES, Super Famicon, Gamboy, Gameboy Pocket, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance, GBA SP, DS, Virtual Boy, Gamecube, N64 + 4MB RAM expansion [or was it 8?], Wii
Sega Master System, Genesis + CD, Genesis 2 + CD + 32X, Nomad, CD-X, Saturn, Japanese Saturn + 4MB RAM expansion, White Dreamcast, Black Sports Dreamcast, Game Gear, Nomad
Sony Playstation first model, third model, and PSone, Playstation2 first model [broken], fourth model, PS2slim, Playstation3
Microsoft X-Box and X-Box 360

I'd love to get my hands on a Colecovision and an Atari 7800 but the things are so sold I'm worried of buying one on E-Bay. Sure it worked when last tested but no one is willing to send me a video of it still working I just get the "its working, trust me" but I haven't jumped yet.

Did I mention gaming absorbed most of my youth...I'm such a loser. I got over 2,000 games spread across my consoles.

So many memories...so many good times. Getting older sucks.

No there's something internally wrong beyond the 72 Pin. I have a new 72 Pin and it does nothing. I also just bought the new Sonic the Hedgehog game for PS3 but haven't tried it out yet. It looks mad fun though.....

Sonic CD is another underrated one also. Sega CD could have been a great system.
