I'll put in a vote for Samuel Smith's Imperial Stout. If you've never had it, think 'strong Guinness with carbonation.' Rich, intense malt, coffee/chocolate hints. 7% alcohol. It's OMG yummy good!

Whether you like the taste or not it's still the highest-quality beer in the world. Personally I love the flavor! danbuc 01-27-07, 07:56 PM There is no "worlds greatest beer" since it's all a matter of personal preference. I myself am somewhat partial to Yuengling, but I'll try just about anything. I rarely get the same thing twice when I drink. I always try to find something new that I haven't had before. A buddy of mine was out in New Orleans a few weeks ago and had this bear called Abita. Nobody stores sell it around here, but we happened to be at The Slaughtered Lamb on 4th st in the City and they just so happened to have it. My buddy suggested I try it, so I did and it was pretty good. Way off the beaten path as far as flavor goes, but in a good way. dkozloski 01-27-07, 08:50 PM "Billie" Beer?.... nasty Generic "Beer".... nasty "Eastern Beer".... nasty "Grainbelt".... nasty LBJ's favorite "Pearl" gothicaleigh 01-27-07, 08:51 PM Heineken. Whether you like the taste or not it's still the highest-quality beer in the world. Personally I love the flavor! You can place me firmly in the "not" category. Blech. Dark, it would have to be Guinness. I'm not a real fan of light colored beers, but Warsteiner is rather good. Spyder 01-27-07, 08:57 PM Impossible. Craft brews, of course, are going to be all the top answers here. There is absolutely no possible way for all of us to have the same experience. Northern California alone has dozens of craft breweries, each with a whole helluva lot of beers each. Oregon probably has as many, or more. In fact, I can honestly say I've never had an Oregon craft brew that I didn't like. Some of the ones I really like include: Moose Drool. Another Pale Ale. Flying Dog Doggie Style. Old Rasputin Russian Imperial. Downtown Brown. Butte Creek, in Chico California, makes a LOT of good stuff but they never got too far off the ground becaue they're overshadowed by Sierra Nevada, which has turned to garbage. SN used to be great until they got to be too big to keep quality and consistency up and still be the small town local presence they used to be. When you can find their beer in Brazil, they're no longer a local favorite. ...off topic...felt a rant coming on...going to post this unfinished thought before I get out of hand. :) Spyder 01-27-07, 08:58 PM And yea, I can't stand Heineken. Crap. Some French beer that I forget with 1776 or some such thing on the bottle is also REALLY good. Normally I go for dark beers, but this stuff is GOOD. Lady Danielle 01-27-07, 09:26 PM Sam Adams makes some fizzing beer..ewww I like white belgium beers..ummm I~LUV~Caddys8792 01-27-07, 09:30 PM I don't have much experience with beer, I prefer hard liquor and am only 19, but I hate Miller Light (tried it once, couldn't finish a can) but I did like the Stella D'Artois my uncle bought me in England when I was 16...the legal drinking age there is either 17 or 18... thebigjimsho 01-27-07, 10:04 PM Well, I don't make it my life's quest to try every beer. My simpleton brain likes... Labatts Blue (Canadian bought) Guinness Samuel Adams Winter Brew And Grolsch has the coolest bottles. EDBSO 01-27-07, 10:26 PM I like white belgium beers..ummm ... close http://images.send.com/115279_thumb.jpg Chimay is an authentic Belgium Trappist beer that is it is brewed within a Trappist monastery, under the control and responsibility of the monastic community. Only 6 beers in Belgium can carry the appellation "Trappist": Chimay, Orval, Rochefort, Westmalle, Westvleteren and Achel. Wiseguy2 01-27-07, 11:36 PM I agree that there's no "best", it's subjective. My favorite is probably Newcastle Brown Ale. dkozloski 01-27-07, 11:59 PM My neighbor sent a sample of his home brew to the lab and got back a report that his horse has diabetes. xxpinballxx 01-28-07, 12:21 AM Heineken. Whether you like the taste or not it's still the highest-quality beer in the world. Personally I love the flavor! I really dont understand this comment brougham...if I hate the taste and think its smell of badger piss then how can I agree its top quality? I personally love the taste of killians red.......or saporo. xxpinballxx 01-28-07, 12:24 AM winking lizard here in ohio has a tour of beers...I did it twice...the first time there were 105 then two years later they had 135. I got a nice jacket the first time the second time only a sweatshirt. they try to get a good sampling from everywhere. Some tasted like I just liked the mens room urinals clean at shea stadium. others were surprisingly good. danbuc 01-28-07, 12:25 AM I'd rather drink Corona than Heineken....and that's saying something. I despise Corona with a passion. I laugh whenever I see someone drinking one just because everybody else is. That's the point where I reach for the Guiness I bought for myself, and thoroughly enjoy my beer for the taste, not simply because it's the status quo. "Ooh...look at me with my lime, drinking my donkey piss beer...I'm cool.." That's great...at least my beer has flavor. TomDeville 01-28-07, 01:21 AM Beer... :chill:  :drink2: Beer is good. Beer is food. :cool2: BTW- I drink Labatt's Blue; it is a 5% easy drinking Pilsener. I enjoy lagers, ales, and dry beers as well. The light crisp taste of a lager, truly complements things like seafood and sushi. There is a multiplicity of excellent micro brewed beer styles; honey lager, ice lager, stock ale; and, steam beer to name a few. I want to try that Belgium Trappist shit tomorrow; Beer is a good thing. Best Regards, TomDeville:cool2: :cool2: Spyder 01-28-07, 01:34 AM While I was in the shower, moments after posting my last on beer, I thought of Anchor Steam from San Fransisco. It is excellent as well. Killians is actually made by Coors, but it IS good. And yes, because of this thread, I took a bottle of Moose Drool into the shower with me to enjoy while I scalded the fry oil from work off of my body. It was wonderful. Then I took a two and a half hour nap and now I'm up at 10:15 and ready for an exciting Saturday night. History Channel, here I come!!! 90Brougham350 01-28-07, 02:42 AM I really dont understand this comment brougham...if I hate the taste and think its smell of badger piss then how can I agree its top quality? The ingredients. Heineken is made from the highest quality ingredients of any beer in the world. Put it in the freezer, and it won't, that's proof right there. Spyder 01-28-07, 03:45 AM I call BS. I've seen Heine's freeze, they taste like crap and the bottle's ugly. "Finest ingredients in the world" is an awfully subjective description. Awful being the most important part. Olympia says that they use the finest ingredients in the world, right there on the can! gothicaleigh 01-28-07, 10:41 AM Killians is actually made by Coors, but it IS good. Killian's Red is my go-to beer. It's my favorite of the "popular" beers and is pretty much gauranteed to be served everywhere. RightTurn 01-28-07, 10:59 AM The best beer is the one you like. (Except Heineken, which tastes like butt. :D ) Blackout 01-28-07, 11:03 AM Yuengling! Home of america's oldest brewery! EcSTSatic 01-28-07, 11:33 AM I think some beers are better for different activities. If we're BBQ'ing just about any "light" as opposed to a stout will do. If I'm sitting and relaxing I prefer a stout like Guiness. I remember once in '75 when we came off of a long cruise during the evac of Viet Nam we pulled into the Phillipines. I thought that the first San Miguel beer I had that night was the best beer I had ever tasted! Spyder 01-28-07, 12:39 PM Crap. I totally forgot about what may be my favorite beer of all time. I don't really remember what it tasted like, just that it was darker than dark and sweet. And it didn't give me much of a hangover but that may be because I drank it for a week straight, from the moment I woke up until I passed out in the streets of Brazil. Brahma Escura. The locals said that Brahma was like the Budweiser of Brazil. The big name beer that you could get everywhere. There was Brahma, which was a light beer and Escura which was dark. Then there was Skohl. Not nearly as good, but it was in vending machines all over town and cost a quarter apiece. I~LUV~Caddys8792 01-28-07, 12:51 PM I'll tell you what's worst. Milwaukee's Best! A bear walks into a bar in Billings and sits down. He bangs on the bar with his paw and demands a beer. The bartender approaches and says, "We don't serve beer to bears in bars in Billings." The bear, becoming angry, demands again that he be served a beer. The bartender tells him again, more forcefully, "We don't serve beer to belligerent bears in bars in Billings." The bear, very angry now, says, "If you don't serve me a beer, I'm going to eat that lady sitting at the end of the bar." The bartender says, "Sorry, we don't serve beer to belligerent, bully bears in bars in Billings" The bear goes to the end of the bar, and, as promised, eats the woman. He comes back to his seat and again demands a beer. The bartender states, "Sorry, we don't serve beer to belligerent, bully bears in bars in Billings who are on drugs." The bear says, "I'm NOT on drugs." The bartender says, "You are NOW. That was a barbitchyouate." '***************** jolle pabstcadillac 02-24-07, 10:24 AM PABST! :alchi: | |
