I'll put in a vote for Samuel Smith's Imperial Stout. If you've never had it, think 'strong Guinness with carbonation.' Rich, intense malt, coffee/chocolate hints. 7% alcohol. It's OMG yummy good!

There is no "worlds greatest beer" since it's all a matter of personal preference. I myself am somewhat partial to Yuengling, but I'll try just about anything. I rarely get the same thing twice when I drink. I always try to find something new that I haven't had before. A buddy of mine was out in New Orleans a few weeks ago and had this bear called Abita. Nobody stores sell it around here, but we happened to be at The Slaughtered Lamb on 4th st in the City and they just so happened to have it. My buddy suggested I try it, so I did and it was pretty good. Way off the beaten path as far as flavor goes, but in a good way.

Craft brews, of course, are going to be all the top answers here. There is absolutely no possible way for all of us to have the same experience. Northern California alone has dozens of craft breweries, each with a whole helluva lot of beers each. Oregon probably has as many, or more. In fact, I can honestly say I've never had an Oregon craft brew that I didn't like.

Some of the ones I really like include:
Moose Drool.
Another Pale Ale.
Flying Dog Doggie Style.
Old Rasputin Russian Imperial.
Downtown Brown.
Butte Creek, in Chico California, makes a LOT of good stuff but they never got too far off the ground becaue they're overshadowed by Sierra Nevada, which has turned to garbage. SN used to be great until they got to be too big to keep quality and consistency up and still be the small town local presence they used to be. When you can find their beer in Brazil, they're no longer a local favorite. ...off topic...felt a rant coming on...going to post this unfinished thought before I get out of hand. :)

And yea, I can't stand Heineken.


Crap. Some French beer that I forget with 1776 or some such thing on the bottle is also REALLY good. Normally I go for dark beers, but this stuff is GOOD.

I don't have much experience with beer, I prefer hard liquor and am only 19, but I hate Miller Light (tried it once, couldn't finish a can) but I did like the Stella D'Artois my uncle bought me in England when I was 16...the legal drinking age there is either 17 or 18...

winking lizard here in ohio has a tour of beers...I did it twice...the first time there were 105 then two years later they had 135. I got a nice jacket the first time the second time only a sweatshirt. they try to get a good sampling from everywhere. Some tasted like I just liked the mens room urinals clean at shea stadium. others were surprisingly good.

I'd rather drink Corona than Heineken....and that's saying something. I despise Corona with a passion. I laugh whenever I see someone drinking one just because everybody else is. That's the point where I reach for the Guiness I bought for myself, and thoroughly enjoy my beer for the taste, not simply because it's the status quo. "Ooh...look at me with my lime, drinking my donkey piss beer...I'm cool.." That's great...at least my beer has flavor.

And yes, because of this thread, I took a bottle of Moose Drool into the shower with me to enjoy while I scalded the fry oil from work off of my body. It was wonderful. The ingredients. Heineken is made from the highest quality ingredients of any beer in the world. Put it in the freezer, and it won't, that's proof right there.

Killian's Red is my go-to beer. It's my favorite of the "popular" beers and is pretty much gauranteed to be served everywhere.

The best beer is the one you like.

I think some beers are better for different activities. If we're BBQ'ing just about any "light" as opposed to a stout will do. If I'm sitting and relaxing I prefer a stout like Guiness.
I remember once in '75 when we came off of a long cruise during the evac of Viet Nam we pulled into the Phillipines. I thought that the first San Miguel beer I had that night was the best beer I had ever tasted!

Crap. I totally forgot about what may be my favorite beer of all time. I don't really remember what it tasted like, just that it was darker than dark and sweet. And it didn't give me much of a hangover but that may be because I drank it for a week straight, from the moment I woke up until I passed out in the streets of Brazil.

Brahma Escura. The locals said that Brahma was like the Budweiser of Brazil. The big name beer that you could get everywhere. There was Brahma, which was a light beer and Escura which was dark. Then there was Skohl. Not nearly as good, but it was in vending machines all over town and cost a quarter apiece.

I'll tell you what's worst. Milwaukee's Best!

its a british style bitter lager, very aquired taste, if you're really keen to try a halfway decent bitter get yourself some fosters bitters, its much better than redstripe, to me at least

if you like a little bitter aftertaste look for a long ferment IPA, there's one around me in DC called dogfish head thats amazing

their IPA's range from 5% abv to 12.5%

and there is a brewery in vermont called Magic Hat that makes some decent hoppy beers with a nice strong aftertaste called Fat Angel
