View Full Version : Dealer Washes Your Car ? Murphyg 01-25-07, 11:26 PM My boss was upset that the dealer didnt wash his truck when he brought it in for service.
Personally i would have been more upset having to pay $300 for a diagnosis and a bulb change.
Not to mention the fact that they didnt fix what the thing was brought in for in the first place LOL. (Service 4 wheel and a clunk in the drive shaft).
Either way.
Disscusion was brought up about it,and I couldnt believe that a dealership would take it upon themselves to wash a vehicle even if it came in for just an oil change.
One guy I work with was surprised that the Caddy dealer here has never washed my car when i bring it in for general maintanance. Oil, lube etc....
He told me that his best bud works at a Caddy dealer and they wash every car no matter how old, new, make and or model, no matter what its brought in for.
I must say that I am nowhere near as anal about the finish of my vehicle as im aware many are.
But I do take pride in it.
And If I was to take my vehicle in for an oil change and they took it upon themselves to wash it.............
Well I would just freak.
Any smallest scratch....Any slightest bit of swirl.....They would be paying for a profesional buff and finish at the shop of my choice.
Good luck trying to prove it wasnt there before. It wasnt authorized so its all on them.
I told him to his face that I didnt believe that a dealership would do that.
The liability is just too high.
Anyone else ever hear of such a reckless and irresponsible practice.
If so......Is a good place to go if you want to get a free profesional detail done to your car. pabstcadillac 01-25-07, 11:41 PM Mine get washed & vacuumed every time they're in, even if it's for an oil change. :alchi: Mine also gets washed every time its in. They even dress the tires. TomDeville 01-25-07, 11:54 PM Mine never gets washed by
dealer/stealer; and, I am actually
pissed off each time.
I suspect that the majority of
individuals generally want
and appreciate it. Nonetheless,
I can certainly understand not
wanting it done; and, if I was
so inclined, I would expressly
state my firm objection at the
outset, so as to ensure no misgivings.

:cool2: My dealer washes every car regardless of what it's in for.....even a bulb replacement. Some dealers do, some don't. The Caddy dealer down in Orlando that I unfortunately had to deal with washed every car that came through too. caddycruiser 01-26-07, 12:12 AM Only happened once with us, when we had our 2000 Chrysler 300M, and then I think it was just because they had it for 2 days to look at something small, it was a bit dirty from bad weather, and one of the techs just thought they'd be nice.
Never again...and I'm glad. I've yet to see a dealer in the area that didn't cause more harm than good with one of their special brush on a stick washes (LOVE watching them prep new cars for delivery like that...), so I'll gladly do it on my own.
Not that I wouldn't appreciate the effort, but unless I knew they did it properly, I'd much rather they didn't. Same reason I never go to a business car wash with brushes/rags or where people work outside to spray stuff and dry. Bad part about that is, the area I'm in 9 months of the year is rather high end, and that's the only kind of car wash they have--so it's keep it dirty, or take a trek home and wash while there.
I fall into that "anal" crowd, however. Murphyg 01-26-07, 12:13 AM Guess its all fine and dandy depending on personal preference.
But when it comes down to it.....Gotta think about who is actually doing the job. :hmm:
Chances are its a tire changing apprentice that doesnt really know or care about perticulars.
Or is possible that it is some ones specific job to do this.
But when it really comes down to it....Do you really want someone else doing this. If its an actuall detail shop that you are paying top notch work for its another story.
But some joe at a dealership ????
I brought my vehicle in 8mths after purchasing it, and 6 days after detailing it myself.
From the original salesman to the mechs in the bays came up to me and wanted to know what was used and who did my car.
Said it was better then any vehicle that they've sent out even brand new.
Just think that a free wash is just that....A free wash.
Thank you but no thank you.
Am curious though.
Were yous made aware that they were going to do this before they did it ?
Like I said, Im no where near as anal as alot that I know. And would be surprised if they have never had anyone freak out on them.
Guess is a nice customer appreciation thing.
But could work in your favour big time.
Hey why is my finish swirled ?!?!?
Guess is a good thing for them that Ive never been given that kind of treatment. I get a wash at the Infiniti dealer but I have so much crap inside its impossible to vaccuum. caddycruiser 01-26-07, 12:22 AM I get a wash at the Infiniti dealer but I have so much crap inside its impossible to vaccuum.
Isn't that an actual Infiniti policy, of sort? I remember reading it somewhere, at least with new cars, that you'd get an Infiniti loaner when in for service and then your car would always be freshly cleaned when they were done. Florian 01-26-07, 12:27 AM my dealer contracts the washing out to a guy that does it all by hand using different cloths for different parts of the car...so yeah, I have them do it...saves me the ass ache.

Yeah, its called TOC. Total Ownership C-something. I haven't had anything major enough done to need a loaner yet though. Maybe I should and borrow a G35. :D dkozloski 01-26-07, 02:03 AM My dealer doesn't even wipe over the windows with a greasy rag. I get way better and way more reliable service at JiffyLube. My dealer just had to pay over a million dollars in fines and restitution to the state for screwing customers. Uh oh. Florian is talking about his ass aching...
I would appreciate the wash from a dealer. Most of the ones around here do it. Yea, fine detail is nice to do yourself, but just to knock the crud off of it once in a while, and free at that, is nice.
Then again, I'm probably the leats anal ******* out there. :) Pun intended. I believe my dealer, generally, runs every car in for service through a regular car wash. You can request that they either don't wash the car or hand wash it. ewill3rd 01-26-07, 08:35 AM We have a building with two drive through automatic car washing machines. One lane is for our Lexus customers (next door) and the other is for our Cadillac customers.
If the carwash damages a vehicle (which is very rare) we take care of it.
We have a team of professional detailers in house if someone wants to purchase detail services we have them.
Every car that comes in, for any work, gets run through the wash, vacuumed and dried off.
If you don't want your car washed, as some customers here don't, just be sure to notify the service advisor and they will leave me a note on the ticket not to put the vehicle in wash.
I think it is a great service we provide for our customers. My Lincoln dealer asks the customer IF they would like their man to wash their car. Most say "No". They know NOT to do mine. I take my daily driver from Novermber thru March to a real pro, who hand washes it and knows what to use...where. He owns his own shop and does the mega cars of the NY/NJ sports stars. On the wall he has pics of many of the N.Y. super stars and their cars. My car, is the cheapest car he does, and just about the only Domestic. Cars you never see on the street, you see there. Maserati Quatraportes, BMW 7 Series, Lamboghhini something or other, Bentleys up da gazoo, even a stretch Caddy Escalade & Hummer. An Aston Martin Coupe and a stretch Volvo S80 limo. It's fun going there. A plain wash (with tire dressing if ya want it - I don't) is $30.00 this goes all the way up to the PRESIDENTIAL WASH which is $175.00. The finished car is utter perfection!
Of course, my Sixty Special hibernates from Oct to May, and only I do it.
Many of the behind the scenes people on New York Network TV bring their toyzz there too. Straham gets his Azure done there.
It's called Personal Touch & is in Montclair NJ Owner is Eric. Eric does every car. There are no employees. 4 or 5 cars a day is it. A good 2 hours on each car. madooch 01-26-07, 03:28 PM every time they wash it RightTurn 01-26-07, 03:59 PM When I owned a new Lexus RX300 I took it to the dealer for an oil change. Apparently the nimrods used a power washer on it and the "wand thingy" got away from them. Put a big DING in the door; I "acted out" as you can imagine. AHAHA. They gave me a loaner car and had the ding fixed. Now I am very specific...NO ONE washes my car but me. codewize 01-26-07, 04:18 PM I have two dealers I use regularly and one has a drive through car wash and the other washes by hand. Both wash my car every time it's in. My dealer will wash the car even without any other service if you take it to them and ask for it. However every time I take my car for I specifically request no car wash. I'll do it myself. I~LUV~Caddys8792 01-26-07, 08:53 PM Hmmm.. interesting thread. One of my job duties as a service runner at a Chevy dealer is to wash customer cars.
Basically, I sit in the car and drive it thru the automated car wash, it's touchless so I don't have to worry about damage, and I've never seen the car wash its self cause damage to anyone's car. 99.9% of the customers whos cars I've washed for them are happy that we did it for free and pleased with the results. I've only had one customer tell me that the car wash left a sort of scum (and it was the only car I've ever seen with it) on the car and he made me take it back to detail and have them "make it look like new again" You got a free car wash, what did you expect? Something of show quality? He told the service writer that he wanted a car wash, which to us means that I drive it thru the car wash, as opposed to a "detail job" which is where the detail department cleans the inside and outside...that's over $100.00 IIRC. To him a "car wash" was the "detail job"...but for free. He got angry at me because his free car wash wasn't what he expected, so I got my manager and they talked for a bit and we gave him the "detail job" for free so he'd be happy. That's the only case I can think of where a free wash, wax and dry wasn't appreciated. My car only sees the dealer for warranty work, but they always wash it and always ask first. JimHare 01-27-07, 07:42 AM My Eldo has not seen the dealer since the day I picked it up.
But I would probably specify "No Washee, Please" as I'm fairly particular about how it's done.. :) - and I spent much of last April buffing out the dealer-applied swirl marks anyway. | |
