I bought an iPod video, black, 30GB. This means that I'll be hanging out at Starbucks now with my MacBook, drinking sh*tty coffee and writing in my Livejournal about how Bush is a fascist.
I loaded it up with Kelly Clarkson and BangBus videos, converted using FFMpegX for Mac, which is just a shell program that uses unix binaries.
It really is a nifty device, and the screen is almost painfully bright. The Apple ear buds are garbage, but I have my Grados.
-----
Last night I had a Zune in my right hand and my iPod in my left. Overall, the Zune was clunky and slightly heavier, and harder to control on the go. Nice screen though.
The Zune has better sounding earbuds, for what its worth. With the Grados connected to the Zune, there's more bass and treble, which is nice if you're into hip hop and techno, but for anything else it comes across as unnatural and exaggerated. Hey, thats what equalizers are for.
iPod focuses on integration and control; Zune focuses on flashy presentation. In the end, its really the same thing. Only one works with the Mac. Only one is compatible with my Pioneer head unit.
-----
I have no idea why I bought it. I don't really go jogging or ride the bus, and my car has a CD-MP3 player and an XM tuner.
