I received a notice for a free upgrade to a new nav disc in the mail yesterday. The part number is 15924195. The notice was a 5x7 cardboard postcard. I logged onto the web site and entered the VIN and product code on the postcard and the total with shipping was $0.00.

I have not had a chance to check the part number against the one in my 06 STS but will look later. Anyone know if this is really a new disc?

I just got my new disk about 2 weeks ago. That part number is for the new disk.

I have a 05-STS V-8,1-SG Pkg., how do I find out if I am eligible for the new Nav Disc, being an 05 I'm sure that my Nav disc is outdated.

jgrade, can you post the web site where you ordered this update? It sounds like if we just go to the website and enter our VIN and the product code it will tell us if we get it free or not...

Thanks for the heads-up on the new disk!

Can the Nav disk, be copied i.e. ripped like a regular DVD? My guess is probably not. Regardless until I am able to program my Nav while moving it does not get much use...But a free upgrade would be nice!

I was able to create a copy of my CTS-V Nav DVD (for backup purposes only of course ;) ). It was just a dual layer DVD. I haven't tried the STS disk yet.

Robert, you'll have to pay for yours as it is an 05 but it is the same site regardless...

The part number is the same. On the 06 models and newer GM is offering the updated nav disks for free for the 2 years following your vehicles in service date.

Just a very slight clarification...

As I recall GM is offering two free updates with initial eligibility being for 06 and beyond vehicles and first disk availability after the one year from delivery anniversary date.

They send you a post card and you have the option of accepting the disc or not. If you elect not to... then you can option it at a later date.

Thus... you do not have to take both discs in two consecutive years but can elect to elongate the process and updates by keeping the disc you have and getting one or both new ones later...

After working out all the bugs for them in my 05 STS, the least GM could do is send me a updated nav disk. They should be kissin my A$$ as far im concerned for all B$ I've put up with since buying this car and finding out all the design flaws the hardway. In fact I will call them next week and mention this to them again, not that it will make any difference. What surprises me is that they are even able to sell any STS at all now, considering how annoyed most owners are with "bells and whistles" the car was suppossed to have. Other than the looks and engine and drive train, im not sure what else is worth the money...imo

Yes, the NAV disk can be copied. I am paranoid about losing the expensive original, e.g., mechanics, valets, etc., so I gave it a try. The copy works fine, but I decided to leave the original in the car and the copy at home. Murphy's law would dictate that the copy would become unreadable when I need it most.

I checked the original disc from my 06 and the new one that arrived last Friday (only took 2 days to deliver) and they are indeed different part numbers and physically look different. I can't see any differences thus far so I assume it is just an updated data set for new construction, etc.

The GM nav disc site seems to be completely whacked out... When I put in the VIN for our '03 CTS, it claims that the car does not have a NAV system... It does! When I put in the VIN for our 06 STS-V, it claims that the VIN is for a Buick Terazza! WTF??...over.

GM technical services told my dealer that the new NAV disk improves the Voice Recognition...This is hard for me to believe since the voice recognition is a separate module and has nothing to due with the NAV disk...When I was in NYC I noticed that there would be a line going through GPS and the calculator to the left was way off. I would reach my destination and it would still indicate that I had 7 miles to go...I think this system has a hard time operating when surrounded by a series of buildings. Did anyone else experience this?

I have the same problem, when I put in the VIN for my 2005 STS it says that it doesn't have nav. I called and gave them the VIN and they gave me the part number for the new disk. I guess their database is corrupted.

When I entered the vin for my 06 STS-V, I was told that I had a Buick Terraza also. I ended up calling them and setting it straight. I just got my DVD today. When I insert it, I get a different version error. My new DVD is version 6, part number 15923893U. My old DVD is Version 2.

GM sent me a new NAV disk in the mail for my 05. I suppose it was because it was a CPO purchase. The first time I put the updated disk in, it said "The disc installed is not a MAP DVD." Now, it does not matter what disk I put it, it goes out often, and the VR stops working as well and locks up the entire unit. I had to show the dealer vidoes of it because they could not get it to work. After seeing the video, they determined that the DVD Nav system is malfunctioning and they are ordering me an entirely new unit. I am 12th on the list.

I ordered my new free disc last week. Has anyone tried the new disc? Have you noticed any differences?

First ,did you notice this thread is over 4 years old and second those part numbers don't belong to the STS navi system. Our disc are as follows:
V1.0 10381281 2005
V2.0 15794606 2006
V3.0 15924195 2007
V4.0 25852830 2008
V5.0 25976806 2009
V6.0 20861474 2010
V7.0 20980238 2011
V8.0 22820294 2012
Some disc's have updates which will be denoted with a trailing "U".
example----20861474U

I have a V7.0 20980238 2011 disc available. The last guy who was going to buy it disappeared.

Also, IIRC, update discs are only available to authorized dealers.

Sorry man, I already sent the disc to someone on here, but it turned out to be a 2007 disc anyway so I refunded his money. My oversight, sorry.
